Things to do in Mui Ne

Mui Ne offers countless activities and sights to make your trip memorable, both in and out of the water. This city is a little slower paced and laid back than much of Vietnam; for travellers looking to wind down for a few days – perhaps after a jaunt through busy Ho Chi Minh City – Mui Ne will be a welcomed stop. From watersports to towering sand dunes, there’s much to see and do.

Fairy Stream

The surrounding area needs a bit of a cleanup, but we still enjoyed exploring Fairy Stream. This small waterway runs from the ocean, around some sand dunes, and up to a beautiful waterfall. While you can tour this area on your own, we suggest hopping on a private jeep tour that’ll take you here and beyond. For USD29, you’ll get half a day of sightseeing, plus some extras, with Mui Ne Sand Dunes Jeep Tour.

Mui Ne Bike Tours

Lucky for visitors to Mui Ne, Easyrider Bike Tours operate locally. They have a handful of tours to choose from; we tried out the single day Mui Ne tour so we could stay close by. The itinerary includes everything from a hotel pick up in the morning to tasting traditional rice wine in the afternoon. Total cost will depend on your group size, so shoot them an email to plan your next trip.

Mui Ne Walking Tours

The perfect way to spend 2-3 hours at any time of the day is to head over to the Mui Ne harbour, where you’ll be able to witness and interact with local families and fisherman. You don’t need a tour for this unless you want to hire a taxi to wait while you browse. Get there early enough, and you can watch or take part in buying the fresh catch of the day. This is a perfect spot to watch the sunrise, too.

Red & White Dunes

For a trip out to Mui Ne’s famous sand dunes, we suggest taking one of Viet Fun Travel’s tours. Their sunset sand dune half day tour will pick you up in the afternoon, sweep you out to the dunes in a jeep, and even let you watch the sunset while gazing out over Lotus Lake, right in the middle of an enormous dune. The trip costs USD45 for a private, 5 hour tour, but goes down with a larger group.

Cooking Classes

The Mui Ne Cooking School offers some amazingly in-depth knowledge on what it’s like to buy, prepare, and cook traditional Vietnamese meals. Better yet, you’ll get to eat your handy work afterwards. You can opt for a class with or without a visit to a nearby market, but adding it on us only USD5 extra (for a total of USD35), so we say go for it. This class gets rave reviews from fellow travellers.

Learning to Windsurf in Mui Ne

There’s only one place you can learn how to sail in Vietnam, and that just so happens to be in Mui Ne. Manta Sail Training Centre capitalized on the powerful coastal winds and brought in their own favourite watersport. While windsurfing or stand up paddle boarding might seem like the obvious go-to, we suggest going out for a sail. You can rent a boat for USD40/hour or get professional, hands on training for USD60/hour.

Massage & Spas in Mui Ne

You can stay active throughout your entire trip to Mui Ne, but for those who love a little R&R, why not spend an afternoon at Tropicana Spa? Mood lighting and a serene backdrop make this place feel like heaven after a long day battling waves. Massages aren’t super cheap like Thailand - plan to spend what you would in a Western country - but it’s well worth it. Ignore the neon sign outside and let yourself relax.
