World Heritage Journey Is On This Weekend in Central World, Bangkok

CentralWorld, one of the largest shopping destinations in Bangkok and Thailand, hosts 'World Heritage Journey' event this weekend to promote heritage sites and to boost tourism.

The event will last two days, Saturday, May 26 and Sunday, May 27 and features a variety of activities for visitors including a photo zone, entertainment programs with cultural and traditional shows, an exhibition and stalls with a wide range of handicraft products for sale.

There are four sites in focus: Ayutthaya, Sukhothai and Si Thep historical cities in Thaialnd and Luang Prabang in Laos.

All the three Thai historical cities promoted during the event are protected as historical parks. While Ayutthaya and Sukhothai historical parks are well known, Si Thep which is located in the lower northern province of Phetchabun remains largely out of the tourist radar.

Today there are 10 historical parks in Thailand all of which are managed by the Department of Fine Arts. Four of them are recognized by UNESCO as the World Heritage sites. Besides Ayutthaya, Sukhothai and Phetchabun, other parks are found in Kamphaeng Phet, Kanchanaburi (Mueang Sing), Buriram (Phanom Rung), Nakhon Ratchasima (Phimai), Phetchaburi (Phra Nakhon Khiri) and Udon Thani (Phu Phrabat) provinces. Si Satchanalai historical park is also situated in Sukhothai province.
