StarMart Express Ticket Prices & Bus Classes
One of the best things about bus travel is that you can almost tailor-make your trip adjusting it to your requirements for privacy and comfort. Different classes and types of buses cater to the different needs of travellers. The cheapest trips are normally offered by standard-class buses. They may be called local, express or ordinary. These are a good choice for shorter trips. Sleepers or VIP coaches are good both for longer and overnight trips. They may offer berths or wide soft reclining seats, sometimes with built-in massage options, blankets, soft drinks, and snacks, or more substantial meals on board or during toilet or refuelling stops. Travelling by night buses allows you to save on a hotel room, but to ensure the most comfortable ride do choose the class of your bus wisely. Prices always depend on the distance you ride and the type of coach. For some, even shorter trips, it is worth investing some extra money and buying a seat on a VIP bus as it can save you twice as much time as you spend travelling by an ordinary bus.
Travel by Bus: Pros & Cons
Pros of Bus Travel
- Bus is the best choice to get to destinations that are not connected by rail or planes. The network of buses often covers almost the whole country, and their routes are well and long-established.
- Opposite to air travel and sometimes rail travel, taking a bus does not require arriving at the bus station much in advance. Check-in, even on international routes, does not take much time. Luggage allowances are usually very traveller-friendly, and the fee for extra luggage, if limits are set, is normally not very high.
- Bus tickets can be more affordable compared to air or fast train tickets. There is always a choice of ticket classes for all pockets. Cheaper standard options may be a bit slow and do not offer top comfort, but anyway acceptable and bring you to your destination. On longer routes, toilets or toilet stops as well as snacks, water, and sometimes toiletries and blankets are almost always included in the price.
- If you are ready to spend more, some VIP coaches offer seating comparable to business class on a plane with wide soft reclining seats, blankets, fewer passengers, and many other perks to make your trip a pleasant journey.
Cons of Bus Travel
- Newer intercity bus terminals are very often located out of the city close to bigger highways to allow buses to avoid city congestion. Unfortunately, it may create extra challenges for travellers, too. Getting to such a terminal may be a problem as in some destinations there are restrictions on vehicles allowed to enter the terminal, and you will have to use special carriers to get there. This results in higher costs as prices may be inflated. Also do calculate extra time if you are travelling during rush hours, especially if you are not familiar with the traffic situation at your starting point.
- Buses are probably the means of transport which runs out of schedule more often than trains or planes. They are heavily dependent on the road situation which sometimes can be unpredictable – accidents, road construction works, detours, etc. This is especially true for travels during weekends, high season, or national holidays. Do keep this in mind and do not plan tight connections.
- Travelling on certain routes or during the most popular periods may require advanced booking. Bear in mind that it is not always possible to show up at the bus station and hop on the next bus – tickets may well be all sold out, so organize your trip accordingly.

Soesila DThe bus driver was an malaysie short man. He was very very rude and shouting to passenger. From 8.30 am till 16.30 pm we were travelling. Only 1 stop at 10.30 we had. There he left a young boy behind. I said to the driver, a boy is missing. He said go, go. He didnt stopped. From 10.30 till 16.30 we didnt drink or eat anything, was not allowed. Its a Hunting bus.

Soesila DFrom kuala lumpur Berjaya time square was the bus driver very very rude. On 17 augustus 2026 at 8.30 am we left kuala lumpur. It should be a trip for 5 hours. We came in Singapore at 16.30 pm. The driver was shouting to passenger. He left a boy because we had 1 stop at 10.00 am. I said to the driver, a boy is left, he Said to me go, go. He didnt stopped. Poor boy was left behind. He said indian people always a problem.
DONT TAKE THIS BUS!!! from 8.30 am untill 16.30 pm we had 1 stop at 10.30 am. We were not allowed to eat or drink in the bus. It was haunting us, It feit like this. The driver was a malaysian short man. VERY VERY RUDE!!!

Nico AThe bus was very comfy and the ride overall good. The staff was rather unfriendly though. We was no information whatsoever about the border control procedures leaving Singapore and entering Malaysia. At one point we made a weird stop where everyone should stay in the vehicle and the driver left the bus for around 5 minutes but nobody new what’s going on. Then, about 20 minutes before arrival the bus suddenly stopped and all guests (there were only around 12 or so) were told we should leave the bus and enter a smaller van that then continued taking us to the destination. Again no information was provided by the staff.

Gary JRude receptionist at kiosk in Singapore. She was rude to me on two seperate occasions. 3rd time of attempting to get our tickets my partner got them... all nice and smiley then. Perhaps she is in wrong job. Can supply more details of her should you wish to follow up. Coach actually never made destination. It was running late so I assume this was f9r.operational reasons. It's the lack of notice from the driver and clarity that is the issue here. Would I use you again? Yes once more to return on our booked ticked back to.Singapire. and that will be it.

Baerbel VFirst of all, I had a question regarding immigration—specifically, which tour number I was supposed to enter—but unfortunately, I received no reply. As a result, I had to sort it out just before the trip, which caused quite a bit of stress. Furthermore, the drivers were very unfriendly; we were constantly threatened that we weren't allowed to eat or drink on the bus, or else we would be thrown off. We also had to switch buses at the Kuala Lumpur city limits, as apparently only one bus was authorized to drive within the city—something we hadn't been aware of beforehand. For me, it’s a "never again." The bus itself was comfortable, and it could actually have been a pleasant journey

David YThe bus itself was clean and well-maintained, although it was already showing some signs of age. The driver’s driving style was safe and competent. However, the announced 10:00 a.m. departure referred to a shuttle to the central departure point. The actual departure from Kuala Lumpur was therefore not until an hour later.
The lady at the check-in counter was extremely disinterested and at times rather rude. She provided hardly any answers to passengers’ questions, which caused considerable uncertainty among the passengers before departure on the shuttle.

Sara CFirst, the operators at the ticket counter were very rude; we had to take two buses to arrive at the destination (it was not said in the ticket). Second: we discovered only when we hopped on the bus after a 20 minutes stop that we could not eat or drink inside the bus, for the entire 6.5h of the trip (it should have been a 5h trip but the operator was late at the pickup and we lost some time both for traffic - not their fault obviously - and to wait the second bus). I took tons of buses in Asia and this is the first time it happens. Moreover, the "co-pilot" watched videos and socials for the entire trip with a very high volume (we could hear it from the upper deck). My seat was also broken since I could not adjust it. I would not recommend this bus operator.

Sandra SWe went to the ticket office in Boonlay. There was a very unfriendly women. They gave us a our ticket and no more informations more. We we’re not sure where our bus starts so I asked again and she was really unfriendly. For a foreign visitor is no explanation on the voucher or anything else. The staff didn’t help. Emmanuel DDeparture was chaotic as the bus did not leave from the mentioned location but from another location which took about an hour all together to reach with a small shuttle.
After the toilet stop, the driver litterally agressively shouted in the speakers that he would kick out of the bus anyone seen drinking or eating, despite no previous instructions given. Strange that we are expected to seat during 7 hours without drinking.
2 stops made later on without any defined purpose whereas already running late (not intended for passengers). At Malaysia border crossing, we waited 15 minutes 2 passengers that were just eating, bringing an additionnal delay...
Company displays 'massage seats', but the massage fonction does not actually work.
Noticeable point : we went through Tuas check-point, which was extremely quick.
Maybe this was just one bad experience out of many trips, but I would not go with this company again.

Noelle JThe bus itself was OK, nice big seats with legrest and back could go down. Driver hardly spoke English. Was also not too friendly but OK.
Most annoying was we had to be at Berjaya Times Square before 9AM for our bus at 9.30AM just to find out after 9.30 there was no bus coming and we were all transported to main busstation. (Chaotic) There the bus departed at aprox 10.45AM. We were supposed to arrive at SIN around 2.40PM but we arrived only at aprox 5.30PM at Golden Mile Tower.

Bearded us all into two cramped mini buses to transfer us to a bus depot. Left hours late arrived hours late.
I was left stranded at Singapore customs as were other passengers. The driver just left.
The bus was aged dirty and no toilet on board and nothing worked properly as for seat adjustment.
I am considering reporting this company to Malaysia regulators and consumer and tourism ministers .
I will never ever use another Malaysian bus service.

Ibrahima WInstructions need to be improved for occasional travellers that are not used to taking the bus. Luckily we found another traveler that helped us find the way.
We had to change bus 2 Times: at the Malaysian border -where the wait was nearly 1h for the other bus to come, and then at the entry of Kuala Lumpur, for a mini van ( I have to say the driver of the mini van was such a terrible driver, driving very dangerously without any consideration to security and passengers he was driving). We departed on time (11:30) but arrived very late (20:30) probably due to traffic mostly , but also unnecessary waiting times.

Todd LWasn’t sure where the stop was and I got a text beforehand from the operator with a photo of the stop - so helpful to know I was in the right place. Bang on time and got me where I needed to go. Definitely recommend (also the massage chairs on the bus were great - so much legroom too!)

Paula PThe people on the office is rude and angry all the time, they do not give a pleasant service, unless the driver he was nice-ish. The bus departure was late. They dont help you to store the luggage in the bus. And the worst is that the arrival point was the B time square in the city center of KL, but instead they left us in another bus terminal 6 km away from the centre. Bad service.

Suzan AIt was late then stopped at a service station with no explanation and we had to wait for the driver for too long. We all had to get off at Melaka Central but we had requested to be dropped off at the Medical centre when we booked the tickets.

Dini TFirst it is pricey than the average, second the bus come late, third, when we arrived at the Malaysia custom, the bus driver just left us like that. So we have to wait another loong time to the next bus to pick up us to singapre. Very bad service, I would not recommend this to anyone

Ryan CBoarding was allowed 5 mins before departure. No waiting area, passengers were left out to stand and wait nearby. stop overs were swift. we were on time due to a weekday trip. chairs were okay and working as intended.
