Places to eat on Koh Phi Phi

Koh Phi Phi has a way to go where its restaurants are concerned, however, we’ve tried and tasted our way around the island and have the pick of the bunch to make sure you don’t suffer a bad meal during your holiday.

Koh Phi Phi caters well and truly for the western clientele with a wide range of menus from all you can eat BBQs, to real Italian wood-fired pizzas. Seafood is easy to come by with restaurants featuring specials of freshly caught ‘fish of the day’ which are always worth a try. Authentic local Thai restaurants are harder to find, but there is a great cooking class should you wish to learn yourself and another favourite of ours that isn’t shy of portion sizes.

Seafood

You can’t pass up an opportunity to try any freshly caught seafood – you’re on an island! One of the most popular restaurants (albeit no frills) is Corner Seafood, at the junction, near the market in Ton Sai. You’ll usually find more adventurous diners there who are after a more authentic dining experience, rather than playing it safe with home comforts. We recommend you try whatever is freshly caught that day. Prices are low, but may vary depending on the season and the daily catch.

Another seafood suggestion is the attractive Tonsai Seafood Restaurant, right near the pier, offering all manner of seafood from squid to snapper all at a reasonable price. The big plus is the great sea views overlooking the bay and a decent wine list, to accompany your meal.

Thai Food

If you want to tickle your tastebuds Thai style, one of the best ways is to learn how! Pum Thai Restaurant and Cooking School right in the heart of Ton Sai Village (125/40 Moo 7) is just the place to learn some of your favourite dishes, so you know how to make them again when you get back home. Whether it’s mastering the traditional green curry, or popular Pad Thai, you’ll be taken to the market to buy the ingredients, then learn (and eat!) three dishes, and come away with a recipe book all for the price of THB2,200!

However, if cooking really isn’t your thing and you’d rather someone did it for you, head to Papaya (139/9 Moo. 7) for huge portion sizes of delicious Thai food (we love the basil chicken and som tam). Dishes average THB250 and you’ll be certain not to leave hungry with their generous helpings!

Western and International Food

We all love a bit of what we know, there’s no shame in it, which is why you’ll find Matt’s Joint (15/102 Moo. 7) full nearly every night with people queuing up for its nightly bargain buffets of just THB299. Pile your plates high with burgers, sausages, kebabs, bakes potatoes, tacos, pasta… you name it. You can keep up to date with the sports on the big screen, or play a sociable game of scrabble with your friends after you’re done your smorgasbord of grilled goodness.

Should you want something with a different kind of atmosphere, Ciao Bella on Lo Dalam beach is the place to go for delicious Italian food, with the tables and chairs set into the sand looking out onto the bay. From dusk, the sea front restaurant is lit by fairy lights giving it a romantic atmosphere, complete with a soft jazz soundtrack in the background. It’s a great place to watch the sunset with a good pizza and glass of wine. Pizzas range from THB120-250.
