Cagayan de Oro Hotels, Guesthouses and Resorts

As the Gateway to Northern Mindanao, Cagayan de Oro regularly sees both domestic and foreign visitors who come for its world-class white water rapids and other natural attractions. It's also a cultural and shopping hub in the region so you can expect a growing number of hostels, apartments, and hotels. Here are our picks for every budget.

Budget

We were actually surprised to hear that the city has a capsule style accommodation so we did not hesitate to try it out. The Urban Pod Hotel (TS Midpoint Hub, 98 Coralles Avenue) has all the basic amenities such as free wifi and on-site bar as well as flat screen TV in all rooms. The pods consists of 8 beds in a mixed dormitory room which you can score for only 300PHP although there are private travel themed rooms for 1,250PHP-1,750PHP. Even though the rooms are on the smaller side, they all were clean and smelled fresh. The design is very contemporary and staff are professional and friendly. Location wise it is practically a stone's throw away from everything and there's a nearby drugstore should you need it. The pods have no windows though and noise can be heard from outside so this may not be your idea of a leisurely stay but it is the perfect option for transit travellers.

Another economical option is the Rich Manor Pension House (31 Corales Avenue Corner Ebarle Street). Room rates are on a par with the hotel's services and amenities and although the rooms are small, it's clean and cosy. Well, they could have done better with a bigger bathroom but overall we enjoyed our stay. The location is just perfect as its a few minutes’ walk from Ayala Mall and there are lots of restaurants and coffee shops in the area. There's also a convenience store and plenty of public transportation just outside the hotel. Book a private room from 545PHP-1,030PHP.

Mid-Range

From the mid-range selection we swear by Uptown Condotel (Xavier Estates Business Park, Fr. Masterson Ave.). It is a bit far from the city centre, true, but you're guaranteed a luxurious stay. We loved our high-ceilinged room and the bed was very comfortable. There's a nice living room and balcony and we also had our own cooking facility. Suites are available from 2,400PHP-3,400PHP.

Primavera Serviced Apartments by Damiani (Primavera Residences, Pueblo Business Park, Upper Carmen) is another excellent condo hotel nicely located next to a major mall with convenience stores and restaurants nearby. We loved the sun terrace and the unit we stayed in comes with a sufficiently furnished kitchen. Apartments can be rented here from approximately 2,200PHP to 5,000PHP.

Top End

If you're willing to splurge a little bit more, there are a few fancy hotels to choose from. Limketkai Luxe Hotel (Limketkai Avenue, Limketkai Center), for example, boasts a gorgeous infinity pool and a wellness centre. Staff are very professional and often go out of their way to assist their guests. It's a relatively new hotel with a modern design so everything is clean and crisp. The room feels homey and the bed luxurious. Location is a big plus too, it's near a mall and taxis are very accessible. Rates at this hotel are between 4,800PHP to 7,200PHP.

Seda Centrio is another highly rated accommodation located in CM Recto corner Corrales Avenue. We loved everything about our stay here, the food, the breakfast staff, bed and sheets, the pool, and best of all, the location. It's right next to Centrio Mall and a supermarket and close to bus and jeepney terminals so it's very convenient for shopping and going around the city. It's also quite novel that they ask if you prefer a smoking or non-smoking room. Rates per room are around 3,600PHP to 5,000PHP exclusive of 12 % VAT.
