Chennai India – Best Hotels and Resorts to Stay

Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, welcomes thousands of tourists on a daily basis. The city has a glorious past–- from a mere fishing hub it has transformed itself into one of the largest metropolis of India and offers its tourists a number of world-class attractions.

When it comes to accommodation, there is a myriad of choices that range from 5 star luxury hotels to budget guesthouses and heritage hotels. Tourists can easily find a room for their stay in Chennai. Decent hotels are available at affordable prices and if money is not an issue then one can stay at one of the more up-market properties. The hotels on Montieth Road are slightly on the higher end but they are considered a good option as they are very close to majority of the city attractions.

Top End

When it comes to luxury hotels, Chennai is not far behind New Delhi or Mumbai. The Leela Palace (Double Rooms from INR 11,000) is just one fine example of this. Located within a short distance from San Thome Cathedral, the hotel houses three restaurants, an outdoor pool and a bar. All the rooms in this hotel have deep soaking tubs what basically means that you can just relax for hours after a busy day of sightseeing or shopping.

The Radisson Grt Hotel (Dbl Rooms from INR 6300) is another 5 star hotel that will simply blow your senses away. It has the largest pillarless ballroom in Chennai that can accommodate as many as 1200 guests. It has a seafood restaurant, an Indian restaurant, landscaped gardens and a nightclub.

Those who came to the city for sightseeing can opt for the Vivanta by TAJ which is 1 mile from the ever popular Government Museum. The hotel has WiFi in public areas apart from usual facilities that one normally expects in a 5 star hotel. A double room in this hotel usually costs around INR 16,000.

Mid-Range

Chennai also has a full range of mid-range hotels that are targeted towards tourists who prefer a bit of luxury but cannot afford the hefty price tag that comes with it.

We stayed at the Somerset Greenways Hotel which is family friendly hotel with a variety of facilities like a sauna, an outdoor pool and a health club. The rooms are much bigger than what the other hotels in this price category offer. Breakfast is included in the room tariff which is usually around INR 5400.

There is another recommended hotel called E Hotel (rooms from INR 3800) that is located within a walking distance from the Spencer’s Plaza Shopping Mall. The 24 hrs cafe in this hotel is a favourite hangout spot for the young crowd of the city.

Budget

Budget travellers have a lot of accommodation options in Chennai. In fact, there are plenty of budget hotels and guesthouses near the Egmore train station. The hotels in Kennet Lane offer rooms from as low as INR 1500 but lower rates and discounts are easily found if visiting the city during the low season.

The Radha Regent is a popular budget hotel that offers great facilities like buffet breakfast, free WiFi in public areas of the hotel, a restaurant and a coffee shop. The staff are very welcoming and they take extra care to ensure that each and every guest has a memorable experience at the hotel. The room prices can shoot up to INR 4500 during high demand but can be available at lower rates when you book it during the off-season.
