In the end the minibusdriver stopped and asked all the passengers 200 baht to drive to the destination. Everybody thought this was very strange. No other choice was offered.

Overall we got great service but in the final segment from Surat Thani to Khao Sok the driver filled the van and made many stops and even delievered packages on the way!

Palin was proactive, clear and precise on here guidelines regarding boarding and de boarding instructions, Palin and here team of 2 drivers went over and above to bring my lost wallet with lot of cash, my credit cards and ID cards back to me while I continued my journey without any requirement to alter my journey. If the bus has 10 seats, it is not possible to put 11 people on it. The comfort was also far away so the 4.6 rating is not worth it. I will say 4.0 rating. But because of the high rating, I have decided to do my rating lower as said

Good: we made it to our desired location Bad: - really bad communication/ instruction - nobody at the pier, nor at the bus station was familiar with the ticket/ service and it usually took 3-5 people making calls until they could figure it out while we were cluelessly waiting better option for „Hotel Transfer“: - book a standard ticket to the coach/ van station in Surathani (320Baht pP) - get a Grab an go to your desired spot (900Baht for us) This is cheaper and way faster.

The trip was certainly cheap and the ferry + bus comfortable but the minivan from Surat Thani to Khao Sok (1h30) was horrible! We were crammed in 12 with the other passengers' enormous suitcases on us while the rules stipulated to have small luggage. The seats were tilted forward, the air conditioning was not enough. We were uncomfortable and dying of heat. In addition, charging 100 Baht per person to drop them off at the hotel when you were passing by on the way is theft. The organization needs to be reviewed.

It will make it easier for you to find the van among similar vehicles and in an unhappy case (hypothetically!) of van leaving without you, you can at least report it to the operator.
  • Van drivers are notorious for their driving style. Though many companies enforce strict speed limits on their vehicles they are often not observed. This is probably a major downside of van travel in some countries. Anyway, if speed limits are violated do not be shy to ask the driver to go slower. Normally there will be an information plate with the telephone numbers to call if your driver violates traffic rules – report each such case without hesitation. Also, do leave your review if not satisfied with the service to warn other travellers.
  • It is compulsory to use belts for all the van passengers. Even if your driver does not insist on it, use the belt for your own safety. Belts are sometimes fixed behind your seat – do not hesitate to release them and use as they are intended to be used.
  • Many vans do not have scheduled departures but depart when full. Sometimes waiting periods can be long, especially if you happen to come immediately after the previous van has departed or just in the end of the day when there are not so many passengers. Always make sure you understand whether your ticket is for a scheduled trip or otherwise.
