Bangkok to Cha Am Destination Reviews

MD
Boarding bus was chaotic and they didn’t make it clear which ticket was for which bus

Whether this is truly a scam or not is up in the air for me. We basically did pay to get to the bus station when we could have done that out selves and got a ticket there. However, it got us there and when it did, it was smooth sailing. This company clearly just taxis people to the bus station but once we were here and shower out 12go order and it's confirmation, that was it. Pretty poor communication by those at Khao San Tara Travel as we got there, told it was delayed then told to get on her sisters mini van to take us to bus station but that's my only real complaint. The actual bus journey you'll be getting to Cha Am, in our case, did have place for large backpacker style bags, it had enough room for 2, air conditioning was there but not the best. It was a smooth trip and they even took us closer to the beach where our hostel was even though it wasn't on their path so even better!

Bus driver didn’t stop to Cha Am, only Hua Hin. Several passengers had to book (and pay) a taxi. Price is cheaper if you book directly at the station rather than online.

we did ask for an upgrade to 2nd class at the train station, and it was no problem at all, although the 3rd class didn't look too busy when we went by, didn't want to risk it though as we were tired. We were in the Sleeper Car, so it was comfortable and the staff was super helpful.

Delayed departure, but arrived OK. Driver tried to get extra payment although I had already paid overprice through 12GoAsia.

Language barrier made it a bit difficult to find the bus, and we had to get a ticket at the station, so we could not just board. Of course, they didn't charge us but insisted we get a ticket to board.

Train

Train is a often a great choice for long-haul travel especially if you opt for a night sleeper train with berths which will allow you to sleep all your journey through. To make the most of your train journey, choose the class of your ticket wisely.

Note that there are air-conditioned and fan-only carriages; private compartments for 2 or 4; hard and soft seats.
Though the upper class you get the smoother is your journey, often second class air-conditioned or fan-only sleepers are a good money saving alternative.

Van

Vans are a great alternative - or, in many cases - your only option - if you need to travel overland within one and the same province or neighbouring provinces or states. Vans ply the roads between Bangkok and Cha Am, too.

Things to remember: When travelling by van with huge luggage buying a separate seat for your suitcase or backpack is a good idea. Do not expect there is a roomy luggage compartment in a van - there is actually none and your fellow passengers are unlikely to appreciate your luggage stuck under their feet, alas.
