Uzbekistan Railways Ticket Prices & Train Classes
To get most of your train ride to choose the class of your ticket wisely. Consider the length of your trip, the time of the day, and your own preferences. For longer travels by night, first or second-class tickets in a sleeper coach might be the best solution. Both options allow you to sleep your night away as comfortably as it gets on a train and save the precious daytime of your vacation. Note that sometimes first-class tickets cannot be booked for short couple-of-hours trips on a longer itinerary. They are often reserved for travellers who cover the whole route from departure to the terminal station. Yet second-class sleepers of sometimes soft seats are a decent alternative if 4-5 hours bring you to your point B. Check what is included in the price. Linen and towels may or may not be provided for overnight trips as water, snacks, or toiletries. It is always a good idea to bring some layers on board as air-conditioning or heating may fail to meet your standards.
Travel by Train: Pros & Cons
Pros of Train Travel
- Railway travel is an ideal solution to beat traffic. While delays are sometimes possible for various reasons, in general, neither rush-hour, long weekends nor high season fever will ruin your timing with railways.
- Online booking of railway tickets saves you a lot of time. For many destinations, tickets can be booked as long as 90 days before your travel date which brings planning to a new level. Yet last-minute deals are often available, too. There is no need to go to the train station to book either – do it wherever you want.
- In many cases, train tickets are much more affordable than air tickets. On certain routes, the length of travel by high-speed trains equals or even beats air travel if you consider the time you spend in the airport for check-in and going through security and/or customs formalities.
- Very often, railway stations are located in the center of the city. It saves you a lot of time to reach your accommodation. Older railway stations often have the added bonus of being super atmospheric occupying historical buildings. Travelling to/from such stations can be considered a worthy point of your whole travel plan.
- Besides saving you daytime for other more enjoyable things, a night on a train is a good way to cut your hotel expenses. If it is a sleeper you opt for, you may expect to sleep quite well, too. Well, better than on a sleeper bus for sure!
- There are luxury trains serving some routes, and it is definitely an experience to try at least once in your life.
Cons of Train Travel
- The longer the distance – the longer the train ride, and if you have to cover a considerable mileage, it will be very time-consuming. So sometimes air travel is a better alternative even if costlier.
- Connections with your onward transport should be planned with extra care. Though the timetables are normally set, delays and cancellations are always possible due to a variety of reasons. Another thing to consider is the location of the station where your train arrives or departs from. There is more than one train station in certain cities and locations, which sometimes causes confusion.
- One of the most common complaints about trains on certain routes is cleanliness. It mostly concerns the cheapest class coaches and toilets.
- Stops are not always clearly announced or marked during some train trips. Electronic screens do solve this issue easily but are not present everywhere. So ensure you track your stop with GPS or just ask a conductor if any.

David JIt got me where I wanted to be.
I accidentally booked third class rather than second. I also ended up in the top of three bunks although thankfully my journey was less than 4 hours I chose not to use the bunk and sat in the hallway.
The other beds were occupied by a family and it felt a little intrusive to sit with them on the lower bunks although they were very nice. The problem with sitting in the hall was that every few minutes traders were up and down the passage with huge bags selling their wares and trying to push through but also all the fold down seats were broken and we're no longer horizontal. I spent most of the journey standing.
If you want to be comfortable make sure you select the right class. It was my mistake.

We were both allocated top bunks which at the age of 70+ was not easy to access climbing up is dangerous. Thankfully a kind younger lady let us sit on her lower bunk for the 7hour journey. As if things could get worse we were placed next to the toilet which stank even when our cabin door was closed we couldn't escape the smell. Also people are allowed to smoke. A terrible journey. Also very limited choice of food at the rail station and on board. Terrible terrible journey

If you are a taller than 1,70 m it will be uncomfortable.

Fadzhairi BGreat experience if you want to enjoy the land journey across Kazakhstan. The sleeper train is good for the night train while you have your own bed for your privacy. However, the cabin was a bit warm and uncomfortable during the day especially when the temperature outside gets warmer. The F&B was great and they accepted credit card too. Toilet is clean and they provide you with hot and cold water at the water dispenser.

Jane HWhen we boarded, two men had settled into our compartment, and had obviously spent the night before there. The attendant moved them out to their assigned compartment, and cleaned up for us and gave us new sheets (which weren't quite long enough to fit the bunk). The bunks were very hard, though, and the reading lights didn't work. We got woken up repeatedly - passport check, luggage inspection, etc., but also sometimes just by people opening the compartment door and even once in the middle of the night for the attendant to wash the floor! The toilet was disgusting too.

The cooling system generally worked, but at some point, we couldn't figure out why it wouldn't keep cooling the room and was instead gradually getting warmer.

Heidrun FThe train stopped two times. During the stopps their was no climatisation on the train and no information. And the first hours we travelled at daytime, but their wasn‘t seats. Every block in the train was beds. And we choose the train for seeing some part of the landscape, but we have the seats / beds 22 and 24 and these are on the top. So we see nothing. But the restaurant and the different meals was excellent

Zyad YThe AC on the train is weak in the middle of summer heat in Uzbekistan. It didn't even start until like 30 minutes after the train moved. It stopped completely at every station because it only works when the wheels move. The cabins at stations turn to be like a sauna.
Also there is no Wi-FI which is a shame for first class tickets.
There is no proper service of any kind on the train (no food - no drinks - nothing).

Denise HI am very disappointed with my experience. I purchased train tickets for a service that never operated. This was not due to a last-minute cancellation or an unexpected disruption; the train had been removed from the schedule well in advance, yet the website continued to sell tickets for it.
What made the situation even more frustrating was that multiple tourists were affected, and everyone I spoke to had booked through the same website. This indicates that the schedule information on the website was not being kept up to date, resulting in unnecessary stress and disrupted travel plans.
I hope the company improves its systems to ensure that outdated schedules are promptly removed and that future travellers do not experience the same inconvenience.
