One of the best things about bus travel is that you can almost tailor-make your trip adjusting it to your requirements for privacy and comfort. Different classes and types of buses cater to the different needs of travellers. The cheapest trips are normally offered by standard-class buses. They may be called local, express or ordinary. These are a good choice for shorter trips. Sleepers or VIP coaches are good both for longer and overnight trips. They may offer berths or wide soft reclining seats, sometimes with built-in massage options, blankets, soft drinks, and snacks, or more substantial meals on board or during toilet or refuelling stops. Travelling by night buses allows you to save on a hotel room, but to ensure the most comfortable ride do choose the class of your bus wisely. Prices always depend on the distance you ride and the type of coach. For some, even shorter trips, it is worth investing some extra money and buying a seat on a VIP bus as it can save you twice as much time as you spend travelling by an ordinary bus.

Pros of Bus Travel
- Bus is the best choice to get to destinations that are not connected by rail or planes. The network of buses often covers almost the whole country, and their routes are well and long-established.
- Opposite to air travel and sometimes rail travel, taking a bus does not require arriving at the bus station much in advance. Check-in, even on international routes, does not take much time. Luggage allowances are usually very traveller-friendly, and the fee for extra luggage, if limits are set, is normally not very high.
- Bus tickets can be more affordable compared to air or fast train tickets. There is always a choice of ticket classes for all pockets. Cheaper standard options may be a bit slow and do not offer top comfort, but anyway acceptable and bring you to your destination. On longer routes, toilets or toilet stops as well as snacks, water, and sometimes toiletries and blankets are almost always included in the price.
- If you are ready to spend more, some VIP coaches offer seating comparable to business class on a plane with wide soft reclining seats, blankets, fewer passengers, and many other perks to make your trip a pleasant journey.
Cons of Bus Travel
- Newer intercity bus terminals are very often located out of the city close to bigger highways to allow buses to avoid city congestion. Unfortunately, it may create extra challenges for travellers, too. Getting to such a terminal may be a problem as in some destinations there are restrictions on vehicles allowed to enter the terminal, and you will have to use special carriers to get there. This results in higher costs as prices may be inflated. Also do calculate extra time if you are travelling during rush hours, especially if you are not familiar with the traffic situation at your starting point.
- Buses are probably the means of transport which runs out of schedule more often than trains or planes. They are heavily dependent on the road situation which sometimes can be unpredictable – accidents, road construction works, detours, etc. This is especially true for travels during weekends, high season, or national holidays. Do keep this in mind and do not plan tight connections.
- Travelling on certain routes or during the most popular periods may require advanced booking. Bear in mind that it is not always possible to show up at the bus station and hop on the next bus – tickets may well be all sold out, so organize your trip accordingly.

Anonymous Driver on the phone, unnecessary stops. the view. The driver drove for over half an hour with only one hand, using the phone with the other, and spent over an hour talking to passengers. Even in the low season, without road closures, the bus took an hour longer than planned. Two unnecessary 20-minute stops were made during which no one got off the bus. No wifi.

Anonymous Un happy. First of all the bus turned up 45 minutes late on the way there, and as we had already booked a return ticket this cut our afternoon in Makarska very short. They’re weren’t enough seats to accommodate everyone on the bus so we ended up having to stand with a 10 month old child which on a coach is just dangerous! Both drivers there and back were very rude and it seemed it was a hassle for them to have to scan our tickets. Overall extremely disappointed with our experience.

Anonymous Not worth the extra money to get to Dubrovnik faster. I did like the view when we were allowed to sit in front. The rest is not so good. I wish I could have taken the flixbus instead of promet. More comfortable and nicer driver. And you can pick seats. ordered 2 tickets and paid 49 euros. The bus departed at 0938 when it was supposed to leave at 0915. When the bus showed up the driver was not interested in the question i asked, wich was if me and my husband could sit in the front seats, both for view and mostly because I have back pain and he is tall and needed the room for his legs. This is a complain because we felt we were treated like "nobodys". Quite rude and unnecessary behavior. I would not have used this company if I had known what kind of treatment I would receive, or if I'd known that the bus would be leaving 20 minutes to late and be 45 minutes after schedule. This is a disappointing experience. Frankly, I want all my money back, at least some of my money back for compensation. This trip was supposed to take two and a half hour, not three hours. The driver also did a whole lot of other things whilst driving, like smoking, talking on the phone, sorting things like his wallet, tickets, receipts and cuss at others in t.

The worst bus ride of my entire trip to Croatia After paying 28 euros per person for the bus ticket, when we arrived at the bus, the driver forced us to pay 2 euros in cash for each suitcase we had No one had warned us about this, and we only had 2 euros for a suitcase. Afterwards, the driver's colleague was very stupid and rude to me when he came to check the bus tickets, speaking to me in Croatian and sighing because I didn't understand what he was saying Anyway, I never write reviews of anything, but these people deserve it.

Anonymous Unreliable information on arrival time. The driver was helpful, the journey smooth and the scenery fantastic. When buying ticket on line, well in advance of the actual departure date, arrival time on ticket at Split was given at 1420 and that the journey was direct. Departure time was as scheduled. However we arrived at 1545 in Split as the driver passed and stopped through several villages along the way. I had a Uber booked for 1430 in Split. As I missed the appointment I was charged a cancellation fee of almost the same amount by Uber and had to make another reservation at arrival in Split. When I inquired about the change in itinerary at the ticket office in Masarska where the coach stopped for 20 minutes, the women at the office shook her head, smiled and said that she cannot do anything. I would expect that the information provided when booking on line would be factual.

Nous sommes arrivés avec plus de 3h de retard sur l'horaire prévu (trajet de 4h entre Dubrovnik et Split qui a duré près du double). Anonymous Driver smokes and talks on phone while driving!? lot of space from Dubrovnik to Makarska, pleasant temperature in the bus. As the title says - driver smoked 4 cigarettes while driving from Dubrovnik to Makarska. Then we had another driver and another bus. This one had copilot and wasn't smoking and was off phone. First driver, also used mobile phone a lot while driving. He was aware that this is against the law because he was hiding the phone when we saw police car coming from opposite direction.

Anonymous Horrible. Eventually, we arrived. We took the bus from Split to Baška Voda yesterday. Unfortunately, the vehicle arrived over two hours late, reportedly due to heavy traffic. While delays can happen, what followed was rather concerning. It seemed the driver was trying to make up for lost time, as the ride turned quite intense. He was driving at very high speeds, overtaking cars on a narrow, winding mountain road — in the dark, in the rain, and at times with steep drops just meters away. Although we arrived safely, the driving felt reckless and made many passengers visibly uncomfortable. We understand the challenges of staying on schedule, but safety should always be the top priority. This experience left us feeling shaken rather than reassured.

The journey took almost 1,5h longer than was meant to, the bus driver screamed at customers, the breaks were too short (only two 5-10min breaks during a 4,5h ride), and the journey took longer due to the bus stopping many times to pick up people from every small, local stop. Additionally, we forgot a bag to the bus and the drivers can't be contacted to get our stuff back.

Anonymous strange business model. Safe driving. Drivers are making stops along the route to pick up additional passengers, that don't have place to seat. They charge them for this but I didn't see they are issuing any tickets. They are also making additional stops to deliver packages for random people that ask them to take something somewhere. This causes additional stops which causing delays.
