Een van de beste dingen aan busreizen is dat je je reis bijna op maat kan maken en kan aanpassen aan je wensen voor privacy en comfort. Verschillende klassen en typen bussen komen tegemoet aan de verschillende behoeften van reizigers. De goedkoopste reizen worden doorgaans aangeboden door standaardklasse bussen. Ze kunnen lokaal, express of gewoon worden genoemd. Deze zijn een goede keuze voor kortere reizen. Slaapbussen of VIP-bussen zijn goed voor langere reizen en overnachtingen. Ze bieden slaapplaatsen of brede zachte stoelen met verstelbare rugleuning, soms met ingebouwde massagemogelijkheden, dekens, frisdranken en snacks, of meer uitgebreide maaltijden aan boord of tijdens toilet- of tankstops. Als je met een nachtbus reist, kan je besparen op een hotelkamer, maar om de meest comfortabele rit te garanderen moet je de klasse van je bus verstandig kiezen. De prijzen zijn altijd afhankelijk van de afstand die je rijdt en het type bus. Voor sommige, zelfs kortere reizen, is het de moeite waard wat extra geld te investeren en een zitplaats in een VIP-bus te kopen, omdat je daarmee twee keer zoveel tijd kan besparen als met een gewone bus.
Reizen met de bus: voor- en nadelen
Voordelen van reizen per bus
- De bus is de beste keuze om bestemmingen te bereiken die niet per trein of vliegtuig bereikbaar zijn. Het netwerk van bussen bestrijkt vaak bijna het hele land, en hun routes zijn vaak goed uitgewerkt.
- In tegenstelling tot vliegreizen en soms treinreizen, hoef je met de bus niet lang van tevoren op het busstation te zijn. Inchecken, zelfs op internationale routes, neemt niet veel tijd in beslag. De toegestane bagage is meestal zeer reizigersvriendelijk, en de vergoeding voor extra bagage, als er beperkingen zijn vastgesteld, is meestal niet erg duur.
- Bustickets kunnen voordeliger zijn dan vliegtuig- of sneltreintickets. Er is altijd een keuze aan ticketklassen voor alle portemonnees. Goedkopere standaardopties zijn misschien wat traag en bieden geen topcomfort, maar zijn hoe dan ook aanvaardbaar en brengen je naar je bestemming. Op langere trajecten zijn toiletten of toiletstops en snacks, water en soms toiletartikelen en dekens bijna altijd bij de prijs inbegrepen.
- Als je bereid bent meer uit te geven, bieden sommige VIP-bussen zitplaatsen die vergelijkbaar zijn met business class in een vliegtuig, met brede, zachte verstelbare stoelen, dekens, minder passagiers en vele andere extraatjes om van je reis een aangename reis te maken.
Nadelen van reizen per bus
- Nieuwere intercity busterminals liggen vaak buiten de stad in de buurt van grotere snelwegen, zodat de bussen de files in de stad kunnen vermijden. Helaas kan dit ook extra uitdagingen opleveren voor reizigers. Het bereiken van zo'n terminal kan een probleem zijn, omdat er op sommige bestemmingen beperkingen gelden voor voertuigen die de terminal mogen binnenrijden, en je speciale vervoerders moet gebruiken om er te komen. Dit leidt tot hogere kosten omdat de prijzen kunnen worden opgedreven. Reken ook extra tijd als je tijdens de spits reist, vooral als je de verkeerssituatie op je vertrekpunt niet kent.
- Bussen zijn waarschijnlijk het vervoermiddel dat vaker vertraging heeft dan treinen of vliegtuigen. Zij zijn sterk afhankelijk van de situatie op de weg, die soms onvoorspelbaar kan zijn door ongevallen, wegwerkzaamheden, omleidingen of andere omstandigheden. Dit geldt vooral voor reizen tijdens het weekend, het hoogseizoen of nationale feestdagen. Houd hier rekening mee en houd voldoende tijd over voor verbindingen.
- Voor reizen op bepaalde routes of tijdens de populairste periodes kan het nodig zijn vooraf te reserveren. Houd er rekening mee dat het niet altijd mogelijk is om op het busstation te verschijnen en op de volgende bus te springen - tickets kunnen allemaal uitverkocht zijn, dus plan je reis zorgvuldig.

Anonymous Ondanks alle slechte reviews heb ik dit toch een kans willen geven. Tot mijn grootste spijt. Ik heb mij nog nooit zo onveilig en bedrogen gevoeld. De bus was overboekt, waardoor de overige mensen al die uren op de grond moesten zitten en 1 iemand rechtstaan. De wegen die genomen werden waren uiterst gevaarlijk, waarbij de chauffeur hierdoor vlamde! De snelheid die hij reed was levensgevaarlijk in deze moeilijke wegen. Op een gegeven moment steekt hij 3 auto’s voorbij in een bocht!!! Ook hebben wij €2,00 extra moeten betalen voor de bagage en €4,00 extra om aan het station te mogen opstappen, bedriegerij dus! Slechtste ervaring ooit met deze maatschappij!

Anonymous Norse chauffeur en krappe zotplaatsen. Niets. Je moet je ticket geprint meenemen. Als backpack reizigers moesten we hiervoor eerst naar een internetcafe. Geen toiletstop, rit duurde 4.5 uur. Zeer norse chauffeur, gaf geen antwoord op je vragen. Bus (mini bus) was erg warm. Krappe zitplaatsen. Halverwege de rit kwam hij om geld vragen voor de bagage. Kon alleen in euro's, zover wij begrepen. Nooit meer met deze maatschappij.

Patrick WDe busmaatschappij was erg behulpzaam, gaf toegang tot WiFi en water. Het busstation is erg eenvoudig. Geen zitplaatsen in de wachtruimte of eetgelegenheden. Als je leger aankomt, ga dan naar het moderne winkelcentrum aan het einde van het blok. De airco van de bus gaf het op. Stoelen erg versleten.

Anonymous Perfect. Eventhough the bus station was a bit hard to find it seemed well organized. There was a sign in the bus that said Podgorica. Just to be sure I was way too early because I did know what to expect. My ride was at 6.00am but there was a possibility to get some coffee at that time. The drive itself was comfortable and on time. There was a break in between and the border control between Albania and Montenegro went fast. The fact that the bus station was hard to find.

Portia PA lot of the seats were broken and the driver didn't give any instructions or assistance with toilet breaks. He was over an hour late, which worked in our favour as there was an accident on the highway that made us arrive right on departure. The customer service is very hard to get help from too.

Anonymous Got us to the right place. The bus driver was rude to passengers. We were unaware of the €2 luggage fee (this should be communicated better when buying a ticket) and he was quite intimidating when explaining this - throwing our bags off the vehicle and saying we would need to catch the next bus if we didn’t pay (which was at 6am the following morning.) This made me uncomfortable as a female traveller. The bus stop in Shkoder was hard to find and the bus was running late. The bus itself was old and needed a clean and maintenance.

A very stressful situation for the driver, as he had to keep jump starting it with passengers feeling worried. My friends and I ended up getting off and getting into a taxi.

I travelled without a luggage, but the driver forced every single passenger to hand their bags, even the tiniest ones, slightly bigger than a pocket in order to get 2 euros for every piece. Since he does not speak English, I tried to communicate with him in my broken Albanian, but I couldn't understand one of his sentences, and he suddenly mimicise me. I'm not that soft, but that was a humiliating experience. The only good thing that I can say about him that he drove nice.

Daniellou SWe need to paid extra charges !! 2 euros more per person at the counter desk (because We only paid 19 euros with thé online operator, 1 euro to print the vouchers !!!! and 2 euros per luggage directly to the car driver. Anonymous Was very late and not traffic related. Driver and co worker were friendly and appreciable. Driver was safe and not erratic. I don’t think the poor service was their fault. Lateness of bus pick up. Pick up point was incorrect. Bus not bearing the signs of travel company ‘Drita travel’ instead it had a stick on sign ‘flexi bus’. No sign on bus to say where it had travelled from or where it was travelling too. Bus smelt of diesel at the back. We weren’t dropped off at the bus station which is what was in the booking information. Wished I’d just booked a local taxi now.

Anonymous Late bus but made good time. Views were nice. When purchasing bus tickets if baggage fees will be extra you should always get the option to pay for it ahead of time. No where on our tickets did it say we would need cash for baggage. The bus driver asked everyone for 2 euros to store the bags. And wouldn’t let anyone on the bus with their bags. Other people on the bus had to give us euros to use as we weren’t even in a country where euros were the currency.

Once the ticket checker entered the bus in Podgorica, the atmosphere changed. He started yelling at people to pay 2 euros per luggage, without receipt. Anonymous "bus station fee". The bus left on time. When we arrived at our destination there was flash flooding the driver tried to find a drier place for us to get off. Even if you have printed your ticket they make you "validate" it and pay a 2 euro fee per person as a bus station fee. As expected then have to pay a further 2 euros to put each bag on the bus. Bus was old and many of the seats a bit broken.

Anonymous Driver Left Us Stranded. The driver left us stranded in Tirana - he dropped us off at a location that was convenient to him and not the location that was stipulated on the tickets. When we all protested that he had to drop us off at the said bus station, he shrugged his shoulders, ignored us and just kept smoking his cigarette. Many people had made transport and accommodation plans based on the location of the drop off point stated on the tickets, so this was a huge inconvenience as now we had to arrange alternative transport to take us where we were meant to be dropped off. Disgusting behavior from the driver.

Anonymous Weird customer service. The bus was on schedule and the bus wasn't too crowded. The driver smoked cigarettes during the drive and didn't give any information for the passengers during the trip. The driver stopped multiple times during the drive and didn't give any reason why he stopped and what was happening. I think at one point he put some his personal stuff to the cargo and maybe one time he stopped to went to the store. Professional drivers would have taken care of their drinks and snacks for the ride before the bus needed to leave. AND!! It was super dangerous that the driver had some empty bottles and cans rolling around near his seat. What if one of these cans or bottles went under the brakes and in that case, he wouldn't have been able to use the brakes.

Anonymous I was left really shaken and upset by the experience of travelling from Podgorica to Shkoder. I am a solo traveller from England and I don’t speak Montenegran or Albanian. I handed in my ticket and made it clear I was travelling to Shkoder. However, when we got to Shkoder the driver didn’t advise of the stop. We then started to drive out of Shkoder. I spoke to the driver who was really rude and said he only had 3 passengers for Shkoder and he dropped them off. I showed him my to ticket and he finally pulled over. He left me on the side of the road with no phone signal or money 2 miles from Shkoder. I was left shaken by the whole experience.

Anonymous Bus air conditioning insufficient; it was too hot inside. Avoid seats and curtains in velvet ! If you pay a bus ticket, it is not normal not to include at leat one lugagge per person, customer should not have the surprise to pay in cash additionally for the luggage when boarding. It is simply stupid to ask customers to print tickets on paper at the station, when tickets have QR-code to be shown from mobile, to be scanned by the driver or a boarding assistant for automatic check/count (speeding up the boarding process). It is even abusive not to inform before the customers and ask them to pay for printing tickets at station in Shkodër (5€ per person for 1 sheet of paper!), in addition to pay for a printed pass for the station gate (1€ pp for a piece of paper), which is completely useless, as access to the bus platforms should only be based on the fact to have a valid travel bus ticket!!

Anonymous Too late…. The driver was very good and helpful. The Price was ok.The Bus was a Little Bit and too Hot. The Bus was over 2 Hours to Late.

Anonymous Hot. The scenery. Driver was very rude, shouting at passengers. The assistant who got on at podgorica was worse. Very rude. The bus is too hot. It is rude to ask 2 Euros for a bag under the bus. It cost 2 of us an extra 10 euros because we had to pay "bus station tax" . How ridiculous. I'm not happy.

Anonymous 3 hour bus journey turned into 6 hours. Price. 90 minutes late. No communication. Overcrowded bus. 4 hours without a toilet stop. Dreadful.
