Sreychhoummoniroth MIn Vang Vieng railway station they scan your luggage and you're not allowed to bring certain items. No choice, because you cannot check-in anything. They took away my girlfriend's pocket knife. Luckily they didn't find my swiss army knife which costs around 10x the train ticket price. After showing the tickets, the staff shoved us into the train which left a couple of minutes earlier than scheduled. We had to walk through the whole packed train, as our seats were at the very end of the train. The air in the train was pretty bad. I would have preferred fresh air instead of that recycled A/C staleness. To kill some time we wanted to play Uno. The stewardess came to us with a very grim face "no play cards". It blew our minds. People watching Tiktok loudly on their phone on the other hand doesn't seem to be an issue. Long before arring at the destination the toilets were locked and inaccessible. Overall disappointing experience with Laos trains or may I say China Railways.

Danielle W1. "I am a solo female traveler currently at a hotel in Luang Prabang."
2. "I was cornered at Vang Vieng railway station by five male guards who used the local vape law to extort me."
3. "They aggressively forced me to an ATM, compelled me to withdraw 5 million kip in cash, refused to issue a receipt, and told me to hide the money upon re-entering."
4. "I felt physically intimidated, unsafe, and gave them the cash under duress."

Susan NYou stated that if I couldn’t come to the restaurant the day before the train trip, that I could pick up my ticket at the train station ticket office one hour before the departure. There was no one there an hour before. The helpful lady in the ticket office sent you a message and a lady from your office came with my ticket. If that lady hadn’t helped me, I don’t think you would have brought my ticket.

William GWe booked with 12Go from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng with a return. Our return was confirmed a few days in advance but our train from LP to VV was cancelled the day before we were leaving. That put us in a difficult position of having to scramble to find a way to VV, which we did on our own. The communication for picking up the tickets from VV to LP was not very clear and we had to get the help from others at the train station to assist us. In future, I would book my tickets directly with LCRailways.

Kohei TNaluang was excellent — they replied quickly and were very helpful throughout. When our train was cancelled, they explained the alternatives clearly and arranged the change without delay.
12Go, on the other hand, was disappointing. Their responses were slow, and they sent us incorrect information: the voucher showed a departure time and train number that didn’t exist on the official timetable. We only got it fixed because we noticed the mistake ourselves and pushed back. Without that, we would have gone to the station at the wrong time.

Tamas OOverall, I had a good trip. However, I would like to mention an issue regarding the enforcement of your luggage policy.
I had to remove my bug spray from my suitcase because it was confiscated, as I was told that aerosols are not allowed at the stations between Vientiane and Luang Prabang (my route included a stop in Vang Vieng). However, my bug spray was not confiscated at Vientiane station when I began my journey.
If aerosols are prohibited at all stations, why was I allowed to carry it through the departure station but required to dispose of it later? This inconsistency was confusing.
In addition, my friend was carrying flammable items such as spray cans and perfume, and he was allowed through without any issue.
I would appreciate it if the rules could be applied consistently to all passengers rather than being enforced selectively. Thank you.
