It doesn't make any sense to offer this intenary as a two day trip. I essentially attended two different one-day tours. The first one ends at 4pm, then they drop you at the guesthouse without any recommendations about what to do. The second day the tour was supposed to start at 11, but I was sitting around waiting for the pickup unil 1pm and we finished again around 4pm. It's an very touristy tour. The guides were hard to understand (but that holds true for most tours in Vietnam...). The communication over whatsapp was good. I recommend spending a few dollars more to do an adventure tour with camping in the national park.
Don't do it for the comfort but for the experience. The train itself isn't too comfortable to sleep ok but facilities are all fine and everything ran on time. Quite the experience but don'r expect a great night of sleep!
it was a pleasant experience. the bed was clean, soft enough for this kind of bed and no bad smells from the toilet. a curtain for more privacy would be good if your neighbors are not that pleasant.
Changes for the departure time and drop-off point, with a drop-off in the middle of the countryside, an hour’s walk from the original destination, with no alternative arrangements. In short, I was disappointed.
Dirty toilets and cabin. Very loud and bumpy ride which made it difficult to sleep. No information in the Train station, so it was hard to figure out what Train and platform we should look for.
the trip we had did not meet our expectations for the price we paid (370 dollars for 4 seats between ninh binh and dong hoi ). The beds are hard as Wood. The toilets are dated and not clean and would need to be refurbished. We are disappointed of the service provided for the price we paid. Also, the voucher Said we had to go to the train station 60 min ahead of time to exchange the voucher for tickets Which was not necessary as the voucher made for tickets and finally, post importantly, our seats were attributed to another family why got it the train before we did! Fortunately another one was free on the same coach. At last , I chose the train because it was scheduled to arrive in dong hoi at 6:00 am and a couple of days before I got a message saying it would arrive at 5:00 am Which I would not have choses with the kids. Not a good expérience .

Don’t know when to board the train. No English announcements in Ninh Binh. No
Status of trains arriving or departing in Ninh Binh. Only info on board was obsolete. Train was bumpy and people next to us was loud and watching tv at 3am yelling with tv volume very loud. Told them to be quiet and they moved to the next carriage. But that did not help. Luckily I had ear plugs. It was the worst experience ever.
I mean it was clean with an attender in every coach. Nicely managed. Train was just 15mins late. But AC was blasting so personally it was too cold for me. But washrooms were usable and clean so happy.
