Even though I booked separately 2 extra luggage seats, there was no space left and I had to discuss with the operator. I am glad they let me go.

I can't really complain since they get the job done and on-time, but the bus is dated and seems like it could use some maintenance. At first, I thought we were breaking down on the side of the road when the driver pulled to the left after paying a toll, but it was just so other cars could pass since our bus was struggling to get up to speed. It also appeared that the bus steering wheel wasn't well connected to the axel since it seemed the bus was often using two lanes to stay straight. I was a bit concerned, but we got there safely. The drver is excellent, but the mechanical condition of the bus is questionable. That said, I am using them again next week for another trip (different route), so hopefully the bus will be a bit more modern and functional.

Ordered the taxi the evening before departure and was worried that it won’t come (sine it says that one should order 24h in advance). The driver however was there on time (even in advance) and drove us to Pattaya to the exact address. Nice driver, spoke a bit of English and the car was proper. He paid for the paid roads also (which we didn’t expect). Can recommend as a convenient transport option!

What mode of transportation is the best one for my route?

Bus

Travelling from Bangkok to Pattaya overland will inevitably take longer but in many cases it is the cheapest option if you opt for a bus.

Things to remember: For a more comfortable ride opt for a higher-class bus wherever possible. These buses usually have soft reclining seats and are equipped with air-conditioning and on-board toilets.

They often include water, snacks or a light lunch into your ticket price and make bathroom stops en-route.

Train

Train is a often a great choice for long-haul travel especially if you opt for a night sleeper train with berths which will allow you to sleep all your journey through. To make the most of your train journey, choose the class of your ticket wisely.

Note that there are air-conditioned and fan-only carriages; private compartments for 2 or 4; hard and soft seats.
Though the upper class you get the smoother is your journey, often second class air-conditioned or fan-only sleepers are a good money saving alternative.

Van

Vans are a great alternative - or, in many cases - your only option - if you need to travel overland within one and the same province or neighbouring provinces or states. Vans ply the roads between Bangkok and Pattaya, too.

Things to remember: When travelling by van with huge luggage buying a separate seat for your suitcase or backpack is a good idea. Do not expect there is a roomy luggage compartment in a van - there is actually none and your fellow passengers are unlikely to appreciate your luggage stuck under their feet, alas.
