We booked a bus from Cat Ba to Ha Giang that was advertised as a luxury/VIP sleeping bus, relax, lean back and sleep until your next adventure.” Well… that turned out very differently than expected. First, a car picked us up on Cat Ba and drove us to the harbour. Then we took a boat, which was actually great. After that, we thought we would finally get on our sleeping bus, as described. Instead, we waited for about 1.5 hours until our driver eventually found us, looking just as confused as we were. Then we were driven all the way to Hanoi, where we waited another 1.5 hours at a random bus stop. After that, yet another car picked us up and drove us about 45 minutes outside of Hanoi to the actual sleeping bus,, where we were dropped off on some random street in the middle of nowhere. At every stop along the way, we tried asking the people dropping us off where we were going and whether we were in the right car, boat or bus. Unfortunately, no one spoke English, so all just gave us a nod or some kind of gesture telling us to follow them or their colleagues. Eventually, we just gave up trying to understand what was happening and followed whoever pointed us towards the next vehicle. Definitely not the “relax, lean back and sleep until your next adventure” experience we had imagined.

The service was really great! I couldn't make it on time to the hostel pickup time but the company arranged for me that the bus waited for me in town. So I made it to the bus even when I was late. Thank you so much!!

The bus pickup was one hour earlier than we booked, which was annoying. The bus took very long to pick up everyone in Haiphong ok the way and so we had not gone far after 4 hours, why were there not fewer more central pickups? We arrived three hours later than expected due to the above-mentioned reasons.

Clean bus, comfortable sleeper, and on schedule. However, the meeting point wasn't the one indicated when we booked (a taxi had to come and pick us up, if we hadn't had a signal, we'd missed the bus). The drivers are constantly honking their horns and are far too aggressive for a sleeper bus. No communication (we stopped at a rest stop; we had to ask the drivers how long the break was). Finally, the drivers shouted at us and spoke very aggressively. One last detail on the reservation: it said "sleeper 41." We thought it was a double sleeper; it was actually single beds.

Better than a normal bus but I’m over 6ft tall so couldn’t have my legs straight on the beds that were available. Okay for a daytime bus but wouldn’t recommend for an overnight if you’re slightly tall.

We were supposed to get a lunch and dinner break but we ended up only having dinner at 9 pm. We had to transfer in Hanoi and this had to be done running and there was no time to eat or go to the toilet. The drive was alright and the chairs were good as well. Not all outlets worked.
