China Railway Ticketprijzen & Treinklassen
Om het meeste uit je treinreis te halen kies je de klasse van je ticket verstandig. Houd rekening met de lengte van je reis, het tijdstip van de dag en je eigen voorkeuren. Voor langere nachtelijke reizen zijn tickets in eerste of tweede klas in een slaapwagon wellicht de beste oplossing. Met beide opties kan je zo comfortabel mogelijk de nacht doorslapen in een trein en verlies je geen kostbare tijd tijdens de dag. Merk op dat tickets in eersteklas soms niet kunnen worden geboekt voor korte reizen van een paar uur op een langer traject. Ze zijn vaak gereserveerd voor reizigers die het hele traject van vertrek tot eindstation afleggen. Toch zijn tickets in tweedeklas met soms zachte stoelen een behoorlijk alternatief als je slechts 4 tot 5 uur op de trein zit. Controleer wat bij de prijs is inbegrepen. Linnengoed en handdoeken zijn al dan niet voorzien voor overnachtingen, evenals water, snacks of toiletartikelen. Het is altijd een goed idee om wat extra kleding mee te nemen aan boord, omdat de airconditioning of verwarming misschien niet aan je eisen voldoet.
Reizen per trein: Voor- en nadelen
Voordelen van reizen per trein
- Reizen per trein is een ideale oplossing om het verkeer voor te zijn. Hoewel vertragingen om verschillende redenen soms mogelijk zijn, zullen in het algemeen noch de spits, noch lange weekends, noch drukke vakantiedagen je reis met de trein verpesten.
- Online boeken van treinkaartjes bespaart je veel tijd. Voor veel bestemmingen kunnen tickets tot 90 dagen voor je reisdatum worden geboekt. Toch zijn er vaak ook last-minute aanbiedingen beschikbaar. Je hoeft ook niet naar het treinstation om te boeken, doe het waar je wilt.
- In veel gevallen zijn treintickets veel voordeliger dan vliegtickets. Op bepaalde routes is de reisduur van hogesnelheidstreinen gelijk aan of zelfs korter dan die van vliegtuigen, als je bedenkt hoeveel tijd je op de luchthaven doorbrengt met inchecken en het doorlopen van veiligheids- en/of douaneformaliteiten.
- Spoorwegstations bevinden zich vaak in het centrum van de stad. Het bespaart je veel tijd om je accommodatie te bereiken. Oudere stations hebben vaak de extra bonus dat ze super sfeervol zijn en in historische gebouwen liggen. Reizen naar/van dergelijke stations kan worden beschouwd als een waardevol punt van je hele reisplan.
- Behalve dat je overdag tijd overhoudt voor andere leukere dingen, is een nacht in de trein een goede manier om te besparen op je hotelkosten. Als je voor een slaaptrein kiest, mag je ook verwachten dat je goed slaapt. Beter dan in een slaapbus!
- Op sommige routes rijden luxe treinen, en het is zeker een ervaring die je minstens één keer in je leven moet proberen.
Nadelen van reizen per trein
- Hoe langer de afstand, hoe langer de treinrit, en als je een aanzienlijke afstand moet afleggen, zal het erg tijdrovend zijn. Soms is vliegen dus een beter alternatief, ook al is het duurder.
- Verbindingen met je verder vervoer moeten met extra zorg worden gepland. Hoewel de dienstregelingen normaal gesproken vastliggen, zijn vertragingen en annuleringen altijd mogelijk om uiteenlopende redenen. Een ander punt om rekening mee te houden is de locatie van het station waar je trein aankomt of vertrekt. In bepaalde steden en plaatsen is er meer dan één station, wat soms voor verwarring zorgt.
- Een van de meest voorkomende klachten over treinen op bepaalde trajecten is de netheid. Het betreft vooral de goedkoopste klasse rijtuigen en toiletten.
- Tijdens sommige treinreizen worden haltes niet altijd duidelijk aangekondigd of gemarkeerd. Elektronische schermen lossen dit probleem gemakkelijk op, maar zijn niet overal aanwezig. Zorg er dus voor dat je je halte volgt met GPS of vraag het gewoon aan de conducteur.

Please reimburse my ticket because instead of 6 hrs it was 1 day and 6 hrs. had to pay for sleeping over night. It is a big mistake and huge mistake sending people in 30 hrs trip when it is said on the ticket when I bought, that it will be 6 hrs ride but it was 6 hrs plus 24 hrs, arriving 18.15 next day, not he same day. Slowest possible train to do 1000 km in 30 hrs.

Excellent train, right on time and very comfortable in first class - for a small additional cost this is recommended especially when travelling with someone else. 12Go Asia instructions were very clear and it was easy to pick up tickets for all China trains at the first station ie Nanning East (again, it’s recommend to collect all tickets from one station when using multiple trains)

Going with the speed of 299km/h from Shanghai to Beijing with this train. I took first class but the price is reasonable. Relaxing ride, drinks and snacks served. Well done, 4 stars. The view between the 2 cities is quite boring. The cost is one star.

We received the tickets 4 days before departure.
We were delayed by one hour, but the information provided on board regarding the delay was clear. We took this service another time as well, with no issues.
The train was very spacious.
However, we were not given any choice of seats, which meant that the two of us were not seated together but On either side of the main aisle. There were empty seats available, though.

check in with passport did not work. Finally they sorted it out but didnt speak English so i didnt know what was going on, I got on the train in the nick of time. train is great, fast, comfortable but the stress of being there early and nearly missing the train because the system didn't work spoilt it for me

It was supposed to be first class, but you had to wait in line with everyone else, except business class passengers. The back of the seat was hard. The train was quiet and did not induce discomfort for me. There were sick bags in the pocket. I rarely if ever get seasick. The train seems to be built for higher speeds than it travelled at. Mobile phone availability was very spotty once the train entered the mountains. Many long tunnels after about 1/3 of the distance. Although at the stations this line is called the Lao-China Railway, on the train they consistently say China-Lao Railway.

The ticket shouldn’t be sold here from Kunming if the paper ticket for foreigners needs to be collected from Kunming South! It was quite confusing and stressful when we checked the ticket the night before and in the end decided to take a risk and head direct to Kunming South. Thankfully this was the right thing to do and we were allowed to board but who knows what would have happened if we’d gone to Kunming Station…

The train was great, very comfortable seats fast journey, everything on time. The problem was at the station. Luang Prabang station is a starting point for several international trains. As a result, it has something approaching airport style security, very lax in some ways but can be quite pedantic if you are stopped for a check. I was, and they confiscated an aerosol deodorant I’d been using (I thought it pretty, but wasn’t overly bothered). But they also confiscated a small Swiss Army knife that has travelled with me halfway around the world, via several airports, many other buses and trains and 3 border crossings without issue. Someone in Laos is going to get a very nice present at my expense. I wouldn’t mind, but unlike an airport, they do not separate domestic from international travellers. I was not leaving the country. The penknife was in the baggage that would have gone in the hold had I been travelling by air. As I was leaving the check area, I heard the lady next to me complaining that they were taking the table knife she’s been using to eat her food with. It’s all so petty and pointless.

The train is great, but for the train station in Shenzhen, you need to do a dry run if you plan on using the metro to get there and carry heavy luggage, otherwise you may walk a long time before finding your way to the station.
