Voordelen van reizen per bus
- De bus is de beste keuze om bestemmingen te bereiken die niet per trein of vliegtuig bereikbaar zijn. Het netwerk van bussen bestrijkt vaak bijna het hele land, en hun routes zijn vaak goed uitgewerkt.
- In tegenstelling tot vliegreizen en soms treinreizen, hoef je met de bus niet lang van tevoren op het busstation te zijn. Inchecken, zelfs op internationale routes, neemt niet veel tijd in beslag. De toegestane bagage is meestal zeer reizigersvriendelijk, en de vergoeding voor extra bagage, als er beperkingen zijn vastgesteld, is meestal niet erg duur.
- Bustickets kunnen voordeliger zijn dan vliegtuig- of sneltreintickets. Er is altijd een keuze aan ticketklassen voor alle portemonnees. Goedkopere standaardopties zijn misschien wat traag en bieden geen topcomfort, maar zijn hoe dan ook aanvaardbaar en brengen je naar je bestemming. Op langere trajecten zijn toiletten of toiletstops en snacks, water en soms toiletartikelen en dekens bijna altijd bij de prijs inbegrepen.
- Als je bereid bent meer uit te geven, bieden sommige VIP-bussen zitplaatsen die vergelijkbaar zijn met business class in een vliegtuig, met brede, zachte verstelbare stoelen, dekens, minder passagiers en vele andere extraatjes om van je reis een aangename reis te maken.
Nadelen van reizen per bus
- Nieuwere intercity busterminals liggen vaak buiten de stad in de buurt van grotere snelwegen, zodat de bussen de files in de stad kunnen vermijden. Helaas kan dit ook extra uitdagingen opleveren voor reizigers. Het bereiken van zo'n terminal kan een probleem zijn, omdat er op sommige bestemmingen beperkingen gelden voor voertuigen die de terminal mogen binnenrijden, en je speciale vervoerders moet gebruiken om er te komen. Dit leidt tot hogere kosten omdat de prijzen kunnen worden opgedreven. Reken ook extra tijd als je tijdens de spits reist, vooral als je de verkeerssituatie op je vertrekpunt niet kent.
- Bussen zijn waarschijnlijk het vervoermiddel dat vaker vertraging heeft dan treinen of vliegtuigen. Zij zijn sterk afhankelijk van de situatie op de weg, die soms onvoorspelbaar kan zijn door ongevallen, wegwerkzaamheden, omleidingen of andere omstandigheden. Dit geldt vooral voor reizen tijdens het weekend, het hoogseizoen of nationale feestdagen. Houd hier rekening mee en houd voldoende tijd over voor verbindingen.
- Voor reizen op bepaalde routes of tijdens de populairste periodes kan het nodig zijn vooraf te reserveren. Houd er rekening mee dat het niet altijd mogelijk is om op het busstation te verschijnen en op de volgende bus te springen - tickets kunnen allemaal uitverkocht zijn, dus plan je reis zorgvuldig.

A bit rushed at like the border and stuff, and the 2nd driver wouldnt let me keep my small bag (with all my valuable items) with me in the bus but insisted it had to be in the cabin space, although I had it with me in my seat for the whole first part of the journey.

For this trip you’re gonna need a blanket, neck pillow, snacks, a cap, headphones and a good playlist.
It is true what the other reviews tell you. The bus driver seems very careless with his passengers. Luckily for us he was accompanied with a man who was closer to nice and spoke English.
The aircon is very cold and the bus smells of old cigarettes… BUT there are lots of leg room and the seats can transform to a semi bed.

We arrived late and at a wrong place, mzch further from the center than supposed to. The driver said the vehicle was broken, but when everyone was out he just kept driving... He honked very loud and a lot during the drive. It seemed as he was stressed that we where late. He droped us 1h later than scheduled and on a trainstation outside kuala lumpur. So we had to find out by ourselfs how to get to the city. No excuse, no attempt to help us. That was really a bad experience. At least he dropped us at a trainstation and the seats were comfortable. Therefore 2 stars and not only 1.

came an hour late for pickup, arrived an hour late at destination, so instead five hours, the trip took seven hours. the bus is not in a good condition at all. my seat in the last row at the window was not comfortable, avoid it if possible. cheap way to travel, but unfortunately not very comfortable.

The bus left 20 minutes late. Shortly after the air conditioning stopped working. It seemed that the air con would die when the bus was running. The bus then stopped on the side of the highway and alternative buses were organised for the passengers. The driver was stressed but he remained helpful. Several hours of waiting followed and I arrived at my destination almost 5 hours later than I should have.

The driver was doing other things while driving and we more than once crossed over to another Lane - scary! But we made it to KL without any accidents.
Support was very helpful when we felt the need to confirm that we were on the right pickup-spot.
We was delayed before even starting our journey and it didn’t take long before the driver stoped and left the bus for approx. 10-15 minutes. The fact that the drive took longer than anticipated was NOT the traffic.

Pullman in ritardo. Fermate senza senso, tempo complessivo di percorrenza 3 ore e 15 minuti al posto delle 2 ore previste. L’autista ha sentito tutto il tempo la musica ad alto volume e ad un certo punto si è messo anche a fumare.
L’unico aspetto positivo è il prezzo 2 € per la tratta Melaka-Kuala Lumpur e la comodità dei posti a sedere.

The bus arrived 3 hours late.
Only about 30 mins of this could be attributed to traffic. The rest is due to leaving 40 mins after the advertised time (despite the bus being there 10 mins after it, we sat for 30 mins with nobody new getting on) and terrible estimation from the company. The bus makes a lot of stops that mean it has to drive out of the way which is completely understandable for a bus but it needs to be included when estimating the arrival time.
Spending 8 hours on the bus when we were expecting 5 was very frustrating.
The second issue was the stops. In the 8 hours on the bus, the only opportunities to get food were stops at bus stations (which often don't have much to offer).
Excluding all of the above, the seats were at least relatively comfortable.

We were 2,5 hours late and the bus driver kept smoking out the window. We weren’t informed about the long delay and 10 minutes before our stop the driver took a 25 minute break. Wouldn’t book a long trip with this company again.

Die Fahrt war soweit ganz in Ordnung. Ein kleines bisschen spannend bei dem ganzen Ein-Aus-Einreisethema. Es hat aber gut funktioniert. Leider hatten wir zu Beginn schon eine 1/2 h Verspätung und zum Schluss knapp 2h ohne wirklich ersichtlichen Grund (kein Stau oder ähnliches). Abfahrt war 15:00 und Ankunft für 20:06 geplant. Los ging es um 15:30 und angekommen sind wir um 22 Uhr.

When I got to the bus company I was sent on the wrong bus (KL instead of Ipoh). Before entering and on the bus I'd ask the staff several times if this was the bus going to Ipoh, which they confirmed. And yet, when someone checked tickets (after one hour) I was told to get off the bus and wait for 30 minutes to get on the right bus. When I finally got on the right bus, there was no seat with the number printed on my ticket. So I ended up being moved around until a staff member finally gave me a seat that hadn't been booked.

The service was delayed and the staff at the bus station was both unhelpful and quite rude. I had to ask several times when the bus was coming and he dismissed me several times telling me to sit down and almost laughing in my face. He then gave me information after it was already late saying it would be very late. It was unhelpful and the communication remained poor. The bus broke down for 2 hours, 1 hour outside of Kuala Lumper. Again, we had no information about what was happening, for the first hour and 45 minutes, and just told to leave the bus. A replacement bus did come and we finally arrived in Penang at 8.40 am, instead of 5.10 am. It was a significant delay and caused problems for our first day in Penang.

Central location was easy to find. However I could not see any signs telling me if I needed to go to a counter to check-in (like other companies) or just wait for the bus. Bus also came late, but we managed to get on an earlier one. Luckily I called on whatsapp and they responded to my questions.

We booked a VIP bus at 10:00 that showed it should take 5hrs.
Arrived at the pick up point half an hour early as advised, to be told our type of ‘vip’ bus wouldn’t be there until 1pm but there was space on the bus about to leave, which was just a normal coach.
Advised we would arrive in KL around 3-4pm.
Our coach left at 9:40 and arrived in KL 19:30.
It took almost 3 hours to get through the border due to very long traffic queues and then long queues for passport control.
The bus was fine if the journey had been 5hrs but for 10hrs it was too cramped.
I cannot see how this journey could have happened any quicker so would advise to expect the longer advertised time for the buses rather than 5hrs.
Disappointing to pay more and end up with the cheaper service.
Driver was patient at crossings at waited for everyone’s return. One stop at a service station around 2 hrs before KL.

Bus was an hour late without any information, we had booked seats on the bus, it was then called free seat choice. No help loading luggage. After 2.5 hours there was a break, but here too there was no information about when to continue or where the toilets were. After a few minutes the driver honked which was the signal to continue driving. Also, the driver thought he was driving a racing car instead of a bus. All in all, I cannot recommend the bus company. The only positive was the seats, they were very comfortable and there was plenty of space.

Total trip took around 8 hrs, not 5. The bus was 30 mins late, and then we spent the first 1,5 hrs picking up passengers around penang/butterworth, tanking fuel etc. Last hour of delay was due to an accident on the highway, so not really the fault of the bus company. Other than that trip was fine, comfy seats and many stops to use a toilet, buy snacks etc. Just be aware of the real travel time. Could really mess up your plans if you're catching a plane!

I was surprised with the amount of space of the seats and how comfortable they were. I think it was the best bus I had ever taken according to comfort. They even had a screen for movies or games but, sadly, they did not work during the entire ride.
The bus does stop at one point for buying food and toilet break.
I have to give only 4 stars though because the 5h ride ended in a 8h one. The bus arrived late to the station and then with the traffic it only kept on delaying. We ended up arriving at KL around 20:00 when we were supposed to arrive at 16:30. Best advice to take the bus from Butterworth instead of Penang as the traffic getting out of it it's terrible at that only took around 2h so avoid that and go to Butterworth instead (and get some food for the ride or you might starve if you get stuck in traffic too).
