Las Ventajas de Viajar en Tren
- Viajar en tren es una solución ideal para evitar el tráfico. Si bien pueden ocurrir retrasos por diversos motivos, en general, las horas punta, los fines de semana largos y las temporadas altas no te impedirán llegar a tiempo si viajas en tren.
- Puedes ahorrarte mucho tiempo reservando tus billetes de tren online. Se pueden reservar billetes para muchos destinos hasta 90 días antes de la fecha de viaje, esto te permite planificar con comodidad. También hay ofertas de última hora y no es necesario ir a la estación de tren: reserva fácilmente desde donde quiera que te encuentres.
- En muchos casos, los billetes de tren son más económicos que los de avión. Para determinadas rutas, la duración del viaje en tren de alta velocidad es igual a la de un avión o, incluso, el trayecto completo dura menos, si se tiene en cuenta el tiempo que se pasa en el aeropuerto para el check-in y para los trámites de seguridad y/o aduanas.
- A menudo, las estaciones de tren están situadas en el centro de la ciudad. Esto puede ahorrarte tiempo en el traslado a tu alojamiento. Además, las estaciones de tren más antiguas suelen tener valor y ambiente histórico. Utilizar estas estaciones puede convertirse en una oportunidad para visitar lugares interesantes dentro de tu plan de viaje.
- Una noche en tren, además de dejar libres las horas del día para hacer cosas más interesantes, es una buena forma de reducir tus gastos de hotel. Además, si viajas en coche-cama, dormirás bastante bien. Seguramente mejor que en un autobús-cama.
- Algunas rutas están cubiertas por trenes de lujo, esta es sin duda una experiencia que hay que probar al menos una vez en la vida.
Las Desventajas de Viajar en Tren
- Cuanto mayor sea la distancia, más se alarga el viaje en tren. Si la distancia es bastante considerable, el viaje requerirá demasiado tiempo. Por eso a veces viajar en avión es una mejor opción, aunque sea más costoso.
- La conexión con el medio de transporte que le sigue al tren debe planificarse con sumo cuidado. Aunque los horarios de tren suelen ser fijos, es posible que se produzcan retrasos y cancelaciones por diversos motivos. Otro aspecto a tener en cuenta es la ubicación de la estación de la que sale o llega el tren. En algunas ciudades y localidades hay más de una estación de tren, y esto puede causar confusión.
- Una de las quejas más comunes sobre los trenes que cubren ciertas rutas tienen que ver con la limpieza. Se refieren sobre todo a las clases de tren más baratas y a la limpieza de los baños.
- En algunos de los trayectos de tren, las paradas no siempre se anuncian o se indican claramente. Las pantallas electrónicas resolverían fácilmente este problema, pero no siempre están presentes. Por eso, asegúrate de rastrear tu parada con el GPS o, si puedes, pregunta al conductor.

El viaje fue bien, el problema es que te dicen que entre 3 días y un día antes te emiten los billetes y la tarde antes del viaje seguíamos sin noticias por su parte y con estado Paid en vez de confirmed, lo cual te crea mucha inseguridad cuando tienes que llegar a un vuelo. Nos enviaron los billetes la noche antes. Por el resto, el viaje y el servicio fue muy bien, según lo esperado.

Muy mala experiencia para encontrar el punto de encuentro. Casi perdimos el bus. Nos llamo una persona por fono y no hablaba ingles, nunca le entendimos, e intuimos donde podia ser el lugar, lo encontramos por suerte.
El punto de llegada mencionaba la universidad, y nos dejaron en la mitad de la carretera.

Todo salio increíble, pero quien nos recogio en el hotel nunca nos informo a que horario pasaria, por lo que tuvimos que estar esperando ahi con dos horas de anticipacion para evitar que se nos pase. Por suerte, elegimos un rango amplio de horario ya que la persona llego con mucha anticipacion a buscarnos en un tuk tuk.

Communication with 12go was horrible - we received ticket confirmation less than 2 hours before departure, which is awful.
We barely received any responses from 12Go, and when we did, it was a robotic response. at one stage, we were told we had no tickets left, and then 20 minutes later we received an automated confirmation with tickets. How bizarre!
Furthermore, it needs to be clearer that the booking confirmation takes 2 days to process, it's not acceptable to make that clear once someone has handed over their hard earned money.

Nothing wrong with 12go service obviously you pay for this but well worth it. The negative is with the train company you are not allowed to take any toiletries over 100ml or any alcohol and they take things off you as they please, things disappeared under desks instead of going in the bins.

I had to get my transportation to the railway station, which is 30m away from Luang Prabang. I'm not sure if you need to email 12go.asia in advance with pick up information. Well, the place where I was staying had a shuttle to the railway station, for cheap price, so I took it.
Besides that detail, everything worked good, you get the e-ticket with QR code that you will need on the beginning of your trip and end of it, the train is new and it's on time and goes fast and stable.

Overall, I had a good trip. However, I would like to mention an issue regarding the enforcement of your luggage policy.
I had to remove my bug spray from my suitcase because it was confiscated, as I was told that aerosols are not allowed at the stations between Vientiane and Luang Prabang (my route included a stop in Vang Vieng). However, my bug spray was not confiscated at Vientiane station when I began my journey.
If aerosols are prohibited at all stations, why was I allowed to carry it through the departure station but required to dispose of it later? This inconsistency was confusing.
In addition, my friend was carrying flammable items such as spray cans and perfume, and he was allowed through without any issue.
I would appreciate it if the rules could be applied consistently to all passengers rather than being enforced selectively. Thank you.

I did not get the sleeper car that I booked (and even though I booked well in advance) and certainly would not have taken the train knowing I'd have to sit in a seat. On top of that, the provider charged almost twice as much as I would have paid booking direct with Thai railways. If not even the service of booking the ticket you wanted is included, I could have done it myself with much less stress and hassle.

On the 16th, I booked a train ticket on your platform for travel from Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang on the 18th. Your platform showed that my booking had been confirmed, but also stated that I still needed to wait for further confirmation from your platform, and that the booking would only be considered confirmed once the e-ticket was issued.
My hotel in Luang Prabang for the 18th had already been confirmed and could not be rescheduled.
However, until the afternoon of the 17th, I was unable to contact your company at all, including searching online for a contact phone number. I sent emails to you, but your replies were vague and unhelpful. As a last resort, I went directly to Vang Vieng train station to check the email confirmation you sent me. After checking, my name and booking could not be found in the system.
With no other option, I had to book a minibus early the next morning to reach my destination. I lost the money I paid for the train ticket and still had to endure a 7-hour bus ride.
I sincerely urge your company: if you do not have the capability to confirm train tickets immediately after customers have paid, please do not sell them. As for how reasonable it is to send a “re-confirmation” at a later time, please assess this yourselves.
Finally, please do not send me any further emails. I do not wish my mailbox to be treated as a trash bin. Thank you.

I booked a first-class ticket, but due to overbooking (which seems to happen far too often, why is there always overbooking?), I was placed in second class. In the end, I paid the same price as a second-class ticket, even though the correct fare should have been almost half of what I originally paid.
The staff were very responsive and kind, and I truly thank them for that. However, despite being informed of the issue three days before departure, I did not receive a proper refund or any commercial gesture. This was especially disappointing since I had booked my train ticket two weeks in advance specifically to avoid this kind of situation.

The station is beautiful and the train was great.
My issue is that the crowd was disorderly. The mass was pushing their way through even though there was no need for it.
The passengers were cutting through the line when there was no need for it.
There was plenty of time for everyone to get to the train platform without being in a mad rush.

The stations were so far out of town it added a lot of cost and time to the journey. The stations were functional but bland. I booked a return ticket but ended up flying back as it was hardly any more expensive and quick and both airports were close to the centre of their towns so overall air was a better choice.
