Luang Prabang to Vientiane Destination Reviews

van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Feb 25, 2020
There is not a lot of leg room on the minibus but the journey was comfortable and the driver was safe. The rest stops were also regular enough and the included lunch was a nice bonus. Many thanks to the driver for keeping us safe on the mountain roads!!
van Van or Bus, Soutchai Travel (ບໍລິສັດ ສຸດໃຈທ່ອງທ່ຽວ ຈໍາກັດຜູ້ດຽວ), Feb 22, 2020
Drivers were excellent! Our bus was 30 minutes late picking us up, but good part was they picked us up at our hotel. We arrived in Vong Vieng where a transfer was made, all well organized. We were escorted to a different van which took us to Vientiane. Next time I would limit baggage on such a trip. Each of us carried a large suitcase, and drivers managed to fit us all into the van, but next time a rucksack would be easier. The van ride from Luang Prabang was very full of people and luggage. Our transfer van to Vientiane was roomier and more comfortable. I would use this service again.

Very full passeger , not convenient for 8 hours journey. we have free for lunch at a restaurant.

Nicht gut organisierte Bus Gesellschaft, man muss seinen Platz suchen, die Busse sind nicht besonders sauber.3-
Bus AC Sleeper, Vieng Chaleune (เวียงเจริญ), Feb 6, 2020
The bus is clean and beds are well maintained. Very organised everyone sleep in their designated cabin number. Cabin length is about 1.8m just nice for me. But is not overbooked and bus driver knows his way and drive safely, it took us 9 hrs to reach Vientiane fro Luang Prabang instead of 12 hrs. VERY GOOD EXPERIENCE! My previous trip fro Vientiane to Luang Prabang was a nightmare. Took Soutchai bus: 1. Overbooked - 10 white guys have no cabin and sleep on corridor. 2. Beds are worn out and dirty cabin. 3. VERY UNORGANISED nobody follow cabin number and i almost didnt get a cabin because of this. 4. Cabin length is about 1.6m. i Had to bend my leg for 12 hrs because insufficient legroom! 5. Super bumpy and many fast cornering i was worried i couldnt make it to Luang Prabang in one piece. 6. Other than passenger they carry goods as well, my luggage was on top of the bus luckily when unload they didnt break my aluminium luggage handle! 7. SOUTCHAI BUS WAS TOTALLY RUNDOWN COMPARED TO THIS PLS DONT TAKE!

Fast and on time. Perfect 8 hr adventure trip! Even lunch was included in the ticket price which was a big surprise.

Las camas compartidas, son muy pequeñas, si medis más de 1.70mts se complica
Bus AC Sleeper, Vieng Chaleune (เวียงเจริญ), Dec 19, 2019
It has nothing to do with the buss actually, the buss was 5/5 and the comfort better than expected. But be prepared to fear for your life because the road is not close to good.
Bus AC Sleeper, Vieng Chaleune (เวียงเจริญ), Dec 13, 2019
The online purchase was smooth and onsite check in got no issues. Do not ignore the prompt regarding purchase of two tickets if you value your privacy and if you are not the size of a small asian girl. Ultimately the experience of the ride is in your own hands.
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Dec 12, 2019
The drive took approximately 4.5 hours with about a 30 minute stop for lunch/restroom. We were in a mini bus which was comfortable enough given that it was not full to capacity. All the luggage went into the back which left the small amount of leg room free for our legs. haha Our driver drove fast which made the bumps in the road worse. Not a problem for myself but my girlfriend does get motion sick and was appropriately prepared. Making sure you are as well will make the trip go smoother for yourself and everyone else who is along for the ride. The picture provided in the attachment we received in our confirmation was clear enough but you actually need to go around behind the building in the picture and up a slight incline. Its clear as day that its a bus station once you see it its just not visible from the road. All in all about as I expected after reading several reviews across the internet.
Bus Express, Vieng Chaleune (เวียงเจริญ), Dec 6, 2019
VIP buses are not running daytime, so we were put on a minibus. The bus was scheduled to leave at 08:00, instead it departed at 09:00. The trip from Luang Prabang to Vientiane took 10 hours! Buying the tickets online is 30-40% more expensive than buying the tickets in Luang Prabang. You can easily buy the bus tickets at your hotel, travel angencies or at the bus station.
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Dec 3, 2019
reckless driving style
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Nov 25, 2019
Uncomfortable bus trip but driver was helpful.

Long and very crammed, but good/careful driver
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Nov 9, 2019
55 mn late at the beginning but I guess this is a country use. It take.6 hours to arrive to van vieng from luang prabang. Local cost much cheaper but price for quiet travel by that way.
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Oct 29, 2019
The minibus had AirCon and Wifi. We made plenty of stops and had a meal included.
Bus AC Sleeper, Vieng Chaleune (เวียงเจริญ), Oct 27, 2019
Pros: we got to Vientiane in one piece Cons: we got to bus station one hour before departure; to my shock, the driver’s son (maybe 14) wanted to take/check our tickets and there was no one else around. We got no meal before during or after the ride. The driver turned on lights as he pleased throughout the ride, not just for stops. On one of the stop he nearly left with two people still not being back on the bus. He also smoked on the bus which was hard for us to do anything about given there are no windows and our seats were at the front. But I think my biggest bugbear was the music... the terrible music played over and over the journey especially loud around 3-4am which I assume was to keep the driver awake. We arrived at 7:15am and our bags were very dirty, one was wet too.
Bus AC Sleeper, Vieng Chaleune (เวียงเจริญ), Oct 22, 2019
October 20, 2019 The ride was good. Safe driving and comfortable sleep. With free water, snack and fried rice for dinner. Blanket is clean too :)
Bus AC Sleeper, Vieng Chaleune (เวียงเจริญ), Oct 6, 2019
Sleeper night bus. Very Clean. No place to leave your little bag (main luggage kept down). You feel sometimes you lack space to move. DO NOT FORGET to take enough clothes or a blanket with you. It is very cold with the air conditioning. They blanket they provide you with is not enough. They offer a meal of good fried rice and a bottle of water.
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Sep 1, 2019
Really good service, driver turned up at 09.30 and we were told to be ready for nine for a 10.00 bus so we were prepared for that. He literally just scanned my QR code on the email into his phone to swap the tickets and we got in a tuk tuk to the bus station with others that had been picked up from their hotel. Bus was waiting for us our bags were quickly transferred and we were off to van vieng. The road is VERY VERY bumpy and winding, I would advise travel sickness tablets. But the driver did well to navigate safely and we arrived early into van vieng (was meant to be 10.00-16.00 we arrived at 14.40). Would book again with this company. Only bad thing was we only stopped once for a toilet break, but as we arrived so early it was fine in the end.

van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Aug 23, 2019
Van left Luang Prabang and arrived Vang Vieng on time despite bad weather. Although driver was not very careful with this driving such as overtaking on blind spots and narrow rides and not slowing down on turns. The ride was overwhelming dangerous to be frank.
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Aug 14, 2019
Bus too full. Vomiting passengers, loud music.
Bus Express, Vieng Chaleune (เวียงเจริญ), Aug 13, 2019
Partiti con un'ora di ritardo, durante il tragitto abbiamo preso a bordo altre persone che sono poi scese in punti non previsti causando ulteriori ritardi. Personale scortese.
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Aug 10, 2019
On the plus side we got there on time, the bus was cool on a roasting hot day and the driver/fellow passengers were friendly. It is a long and bumpy ride though and might be a struggle if you are prone to travel sickness. You’re also dropped off outside Vientiane and have to pay another 20,000 kip for a tuk tuk to the centre.
Bus AC Sleeper, Vieng Chaleune (เวียงเจริญ), Jul 30, 2019
The seats we got given were not the best they were at the back of the bus beside the toilet, next to the engine and rather uncomfortable. There was a baby laying in the middle of an isle, which was fine until she unfortunately had an accident and stunk the whole bus out. The route was very windy which meant you moved around in your seat a lot, but we made it to Vientiane 10 minutes before scheduled which was a bonus.
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Jul 29, 2019
Paid extra to have a taxi take me to the bus station from the hotel but it never showed, so had to buy another one. The taxi ended up taking me to the wrong place! When I finally arrived at the right place (before departure at 13:30), there was no one around to check the tickets. Someone finally showed at 2pm, and the minivan left a little later. The journey itself was okay; the driver drove some-what safely and carefully. However, he only stopped once to go to the bathroom himself and didn’t ask us if we needed to go. The windows were so filthy that we couldn’t see the breathtaking views! Arrived over 6 hours later.
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Jul 23, 2019
Was very easy going. Nice qualified driver and a swift 8 hour trip
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Jul 15, 2019
Would be nice to be dropped off in the town proper but honestly the trip wasn’t bad. We arrived around 2 hours early. The road is bumpy and twisty— fair warning! Was comfortable a trip as one could hope for
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Jul 8, 2019
It was one of the safest journeys we’ve done as the driver was driving very slowly compared to others. It took very long though and on top of that we stopped so many times, many of them to buy things from the road side for the front passengers which was a bit confusing. There was not much dialogue about which bus to get and where to get off.
Bus AC Sleeper, Vieng Chaleune (เวียงเจริญ), Jun 25, 2019
Bumpy road ahead. Driver will stop at most places to fetch passengers and they will sleep on the floor which will be next to the other passengers on lower berth. Choose upper berth if u wish to have some privacy
Bus AC Sleeper, Vieng Chaleune (เวียงเจริญ), May 24, 2019
Price much cheaper at 150,000 Laotian Kip at the bus station. Sleeper bus is hot and shared bed is small.
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), May 3, 2019
They said the trip would take 6 hours, but we arrived in 3.5 hours. That was a nice surprise! There were a lot of sharp turns so if you have a weak stomach, be prepared. There is a stop after around 2 hours of driving where you can get something to eat and where you can use the bathroom. Overall the journey was fine.
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), May 1, 2019
The way to Vang Vieng is through the mountains, so the road is windy and also full of potholes. Our driver was speeding like crazy through the hills and towns, even in the curves up on the cliffs sometimes! When he started talking on the phone with one hand on the wheel I started praying to God and I'm not even religious. Our whole group were scared for our lives. Absolutely ridiculous! The only good thing was that we arrived early so we could get out of the car. Honestly would not mind the trip taking twice as long if the driving was safe! On the plus side the car we drove in was really nice and we had a pit stop for about 20 min.
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), May 1, 2019
- We already get on our bus which was going to depart at 8:00. But the driver move us to another bus and we have to wait for almost 1 hour. - this is not acceptable coz we has booked our seat in advance. We woke up early to reach the bus station on time.
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Apr 12, 2019
Started of well with pick up on time hotel. About 15mins into journey the driver got a phone call and pulled over and aggressively asked us where our tickets were even though he had taken the paper ticket when coming to get us. I told him u took our paper he lied and said no and said where is the ticket on the phone. The ticket on the phone is same thing as the paper and can only be seen through email which requires u to have internet and we did not. I told him I gave u the paper again he still said no. My partner was sitting in the front seat next to the driver and saw a paper in the compartment which the driver had put there and he pulled it out an it was our ticket. We said look to the driver it says we have paid and this is our name. The driver looked at it and made another phone call took a picture of the ticket and continued to drive without giving us any apology. This seemed very stupid as if we had not paid how would he know where to pick us up... and the fact that he checked out ticket before we got on the bus. Only giving it 3 stars because we arrived early.
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Apr 6, 2019
Everything was on time and the driver was helpful, but he drove very fast and dangerously and we almost got in car accidents 4 times.
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Apr 3, 2019
Journey took 5 hours including 2 10-20 minutes stops but this was the only good thing! The road is very windy and bumpy due to potholes and the road not being completed, and the driver did not slow down at all meaning everyone in the van was being flung around! He was also extremely rude and when we got to Vang Vieng, he chucked our bags off the van to the floor and during a stop to eat, 2 ladies couldn’t finish their meal because he finished his in5 mins... not a considerate driver but I guess that’s why we got there in less time than stated on the website
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Apr 1, 2019
Comfortable minivan but the driver drove extremely fast and risky, I felt quite unsafe.
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Mar 29, 2019
This trip was fine. But we were meant to leave at 15 and ended up leaving at 16:30, so we were just waiting around for a long time. Also, the journey took longer than 6 hours, which was quite annoying because the road was very windy as well. But overall, it was fine. We stopped a couple times for toilet and food and we got to the place we wanted to go.
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Mar 28, 2019
It’s good that you have asigned seats: if people stick to it. Driver wasn’t very carefull and he raced through the bumps. That was not very comfortable. The free lunch was a nice surprise!
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Mar 23, 2019
Very convenient. We arrived at the bus terminal in Vang Vieng earlier than expected.
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Mar 11, 2019
We had our hotel confirm they were coming to pick us up and they give us a range of time to be ready 7:30am to 8:30am. They sent a tukt tuk to pick up my wife and I at 7:30am that then went around town to pick up others as well. Little after 8am we were dropped off at a bus depot. You then exchange your printed out ticket for one of theirs and get load on to a large van with your luggage on top. The ride was long and winding but as expected. We were on the road by 9:30am and arrived to Vang Vieng around 2pm. They dropped us off at some parking lot that is in the middle of town, about 10min walk for us to our hotel or 10,000 kip pp tuk tuk ride. If you chill and relax and know that they will get you to your location on a decent time, everything is fine. I would not try to plan any activities on the day of travel as things can get delayed and the roads are not the best. There was lots of constructions and sections of the "road" that was not paved, leaving the driver to go much slower. If you are one to possibly get car sick be sure to take some Dramamine before the van leaves the depot. They do stop at least once for a 15-20min break to use the bathroom and have lunch.
van Regional 14pax, Naluang (Naluang), Mar 10, 2019
overall experience was fine. minivan driver drove very fast and recklessly on winding, bumpy, undeveloped roads. only advice —> slow down when you have 10+ lives in your hands
Bus VIP 24, Naga Travel (นากา ทราเวล), Mar 4, 2019
More than 1 hour late bus with no explanation, different kind of vehicle
Bus VIP 24, Naga Travel (นากา ทราเวล), Feb 13, 2019
We booked on Unfortunatly they charged more to book the bus than the cost of the bus itself. If you book the bus with a local travel shop or at the bus terminal itself it’s much cheaper. On the site it’s also sold as an VIP bus, when it’s just a normaal sleepingbus with not much of sleepingspace.
Bus VIP 24, Naga Travel (นากา ทราเวล), Jan 31, 2019
Considering the road is so bad the driver managed it wonderful, but don't expect to arrive on time or sleep much: it is too bumpy. No toilet on board, the driver stopped periodically and we had to pay to use toilet. Bed was clean and water was provided :)
Bus VIP 24, Naga Travel (นากา ทราเวล), Jan 29, 2019
Beds are too small for 2 foreigners
Bus Standard AC, Naga Travel (นากา ทราเวล), Jan 7, 2019
Bus left at 08:30, arrived at just after 21:30. That's about an average of 25 km/hr for the 340 km journey. Roads are woeful, pot holes and washouts everywhere, however the driver was brilliant, slowing down for almost all potholes (but making the trip longer). Got a bottle of water and rest stops for 5-10 mins every 2 hrs. Comfortable and fell asleep a couple of times.
Bus Express Sleeper 41, Naga Travel (นากา ทราเวล), Jan 3, 2019
As expected, a bumpy ride with several random stops where the driver deals with something inexplicable. Seats are an interesting set up; 3 rows of single bunks. You can lie back pretty far so it’s ok to sleep. No space for your small bag, so bring minimum only into bus and leave the rest in the luggage space below. It does get very cold so have socks and jumpers, scarves at the ready. Toilets had the funniest sign ‘allow to pee, not poo!’. Very narrow corridor between rows - can’t be too fat! Snack, tiny water bottle and blanket provided.
