Lao Cai to Hanoi Destination Reviews

Van VIP, GreenLion Bus (Du lịch Sư tử Xanh), Mar 24, 2020
Nothing happened according to the contract and what's been told prior to the trip. We book the ENTIRE van. When we got in, the driver announced that 2 people were joining us. So 2 of us had to spend the 6.5 hours (not 5) next to the driver with no space to our legs. Not at all the vip experience we booked. They booked these people the night before to get extra money, however they indeed paid for 4 seats to have room for their luggage. The organizer said that the driver will make it up by getting us coffee (never happened), when we already actually shared coffee and treats with him from the beginning. Not refund was ever made to the 2 extra people of for us. And a coffee worth 20cts would have not compensate the 2 VIP seats and a PRIVATE van we booked 1 month earlier. When booking with them... Ask the right questions as their standards and contracts definitely don't work as they're supposed to. So make sure you ask before, and my advise would be to just book through WhatsApp and pay on the spot to avoid not getting the money back. Very disappointed. The organizer just stopped answering when I asked for a partial refund of the 2 seats.
Bus Semi Sleeper, Sapa Express, Mar 1, 2020
Bathrooms were gross, the cabin smelled and the cleanliness of the seats was questionable
Bus Semi Sleeper, Sapa Express, Feb 28, 2020
Highly reccomended. Wifi onboard and also in their officies. Safe driving, professional staff. Nice sleeper buses. The only notice for persons of tall or bigger figure - sleeper seats are probabLy designed for local people of predominately thiner figure (compared to european measures) so you may feel a bit uncomfortable.
Bus VIP-Class, Truly Hagiang (Du lich Á châu), Sep 12, 2019
The journey was generally smooth however the bus air con smelt of petrol fumes and the driver and his companions were very noisy and shouting at us trying to rush us off the bus when arriving at Hanoi.
Bus Semi Sleeper, Sapa Express, Jul 8, 2019
The sleeper bus was great. It stopped two times throughout the journey, 1 for 30 minutes for having meals (breakfast/dinner , depend on your bus time )and another 1 for 10 minutes for toilet break. There is free wifi , a toilet at the back of the bus and you can put your luggage at the bottom storage. The seat is kinda short and narrow, so tall and big sized people might get a bit uncomfortable. I am 172 cm and my legs doesn't fit well in it. However, I do think that it is a great deal if compared to the price !

On time, good spot, airco working properly and helpful staff!
Bus Semi Sleeper, Sapa Express, May 31, 2019
The semi-sleeper bus is quite comfortable if you are short enough (I'd say less than 175cm) to straighten your legs. The driver took us carefully down the mountains but accelerated a bit too much for my taste on the highway. Overall, I enjoyed the trip.
Van VIP, GreenLion Bus (Du lịch Sư tử Xanh), May 2, 2019
great driver: didn't honk 1 time the whole trip from sapa to hanoi!! picked us up at hotel exactly on time, very save driver, made good time & put us right in front of the hotel in hanoi! The only question I have is why my fellow passengers paid half of what we were charged? Not sure if making booking from Canada makes all the services more expensive. But overall I will highly recommend that service!
Van VIP, GreenLion Bus (Du lịch Sư tử Xanh), May 2, 2019
We thought we would get a seat with large chair as shown in picture. But once the van arrived, all seats are occupied so we need to sit at the back seats which we cannot adjust the seat. Its seem like the van went to pick up somewhere else before came to the pick-up point. But in the paper, it shows that no pick-up under any circumstance. So it really makes us confuse and not convenience.

This is my first experience travelling with sleeper bus and it was awesome!

Train is a often a great choice for long-haul travel especially if you opt for a night sleeper train with berths which will allow you to sleep all your journey through. To make the most of your train journey, choose the class of your ticket wisely.

Note that there are air-conditioned and fan-only carriages; private compartments for 2 or 4; hard and soft seats.
Though the upper class you get the smoother is your journey, often second class air-conditioned or fan-only sleepers are a good money saving alternative.

Vans are a great alternative - or, in many cases - your only option - if you need to travel overland within one and the same province or neighbouring provinces or states. Vans ply the roads between Lao Cai and Hanoi, too.

Things to remember: When travelling by van with huge luggage buying a separate seat for your suitcase or backpack is a good idea. Do not expect there is a roomy luggage compartment in a van - there is actually none and your fellow passengers are unlikely to appreciate your luggage stuck under their feet, alas.
