train #38 1st Class Sleeper, Thai Railways, Mar 1, 2020
Even the 1st class the 38 train was very dirty and old, people smoked nearby and all smoking odours went inside our personal suits. The restaurant was also unexceptionable dirty and disgusting, we were starving but could not eat there. Bedding was comfy and clean.

train #170 2nd Class Sleeper Fan, Thai Railways, Feb 21, 2020
There was a nearly two hour delay at the beginning of the trip as the train, already thirty minutes late at Hat Yai sat in the station for about ninety minutes more There was no explanation at all from the crew So the arrival to Hua Lampong was also delayed by over two hours

Didn't get the lower sleeper berths which I requested

train #32 2nd Class Sleeper AC, Thai Railways, Jan 11, 2020
Very comfortable and smooth ride. Staff were very efficient and pleasant. The toilets and wash area were kept clean throughout the trip. Unfortunately our order placed the night before for a mixed fruit platter at breakfast had to be cancelled as only one fruit was available. Setback is that train arrived at destination 90 minutes behind schedule. Yet will definitely travel the same train again, and recommend to others who have the time to travel the slow lane.

It says 1:30 but the bus arrived at 3 PM and the travel time is much longer than expected.

train #32 2nd Class Sleeper AC, Thai Railways, Dec 24, 2019
The train is new and nice, comfortable sleeping in 2nd class lower berth. Though arrived to Bangkok 2 hours late and missing all my connections to Trat, I can't complain about train #32. My own fault for not buffering enough time.

The train was two hours late arriving in Bangkok but I gather that's common in Thailand! The beds were comfy, the journey smooth, the staff helpful and the food was spot on!

Bus VIP, Sri Siam Tour, Oct 29, 2019
In Hat Yai, I have to take a tuk tuk from railway station to bus terminal, this is not included in the total fee. Why can't you make it clear to the driver to stop both in the railway station and bus terminal?

train #170 2nd Class Sleeper AC, Thai Railways, Sep 17, 2019
Journey was great, a lot of fun, but it did run two hours late so I missed my connection. (Admittedly I should have heeded the warnings and booked a later connection and I got a full refund for the train I missed.) So no complaints if you are prepared for slowness. Great way to see the landscape, try local snacks and avoid horrendous carban emissions from flights.

Very comfortable though delay due to new railway track under construction I presume.

train #172 2nd Class Sleeper Fan, Thai Railways, Sep 5, 2019
Ttrain delay 3 hours... And the staff did not make any announcements regarding delay.. every one hours, we need to check and confirm. They just telling us to wait 30 minute...again 30 minute..and 30 minute..

train #32 1st Class Sleeper, Thai Railways, Aug 25, 2019
Top bunk in 1st class is difficult to access for people over 70s. Should have a ladder to assist rather than foot steps. The station at Hat Yai needs better signage for picking up tickets. The station attendants were very helpful.

train #38 1st Class Sleeper, Thai Railways, Aug 15, 2019
Booking through 12go was good and responsive. The ticket collection on departure day was also smooth. However, the train ride was a big let down. We initially wanted to book on the newer train 32 but it was full. As our trip was restricted by dates, we took train 38 which turned out to be a nightmare. We wanted to shower but the shower room was so dirty and stink of urine that we dare not spend time taking shower. Though we took 1st class sleeper, the cabin was dirty and stained. However, sheets and pillow were clean. The towel blankets were too thin to keep us warm in the freezing air con. Train delayed for almost 3 hours. If possible try all means to avoid train 38.

train #38 1st Class Sleeper, Thai Railways, Aug 15, 2019
We were happy with the booking process but disappointed with this trip. We travelled first class but there was nothing first class about it. The food was bad and took one hour to come in an unpleasant and noisy dining carriage. Aircon in the cabin was cold and could not be adjusted. There was a strong smell of urine for most of the trip and to top it all off this train arrived three hours late which caused us to miss an important meeting in Bangkok. Calling it an Express train is laughable. We will be flying next time.
